Princeton CAP magazine piece Kennedy read was satire
Powerline ^ | January 14, 2006

You can read the full Prospect article on Kennedy's site. Its subject is a lawsuit by a female Princeton student who wanted to be admitted to an all-male eating club at the university. As the title suggests, it argues more broadly that elitism isn't a bad thing. The article is written in an arch style that doesn't do much for me, and I don't think it's very good. But there isn't anything especially offensive or even controversial in it.

Dinesh D'Souza was the editor of Prospect at the time, and he confirms that the article, by H. W. Crocker III, now an editor for Regnery Books, was a satire:

The essay may not have been funny, D'Souza acknowledges, but Kennedy read from it as if it had been serious instead of an attempt at humor. "I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them," D'Souza said. "It was a satire."

The bottom line is that if this is the most "offensive" article CAP was responsible for in its decade-plus of existence, the Democrats' whole guilt-by-association effort was much ado about nothing. If being associated, however remotely, with attempts at humor that don't turn out to be very funny is enough to place a public figure beyond the pale, the Democrats had better stay away from Al Franken.

It wasn't funny at first but it is now thanks to Sir Teddy the Drunk, Capitan of the SS Oldsmobile.

Will this fact be reported in tomorrow's Houston Chronicle?

Of course not.

It might get a mention on Fox News Sunday.

I would bet NOT...I don't see Chris as being that interested in showing DEMS is a bad light...certain ones he will question, but as a whole..I see him as a dem.

In fact, if they DON'T have a dem from the Judiciary Committee on tomorrow...I would bet it is because they don't want to have to discuss that or anything about the Alito hearings...LOL

Beltway Boys coming on....

We may get an idea if this will be reported in the morning if they bring it up...

OR, if that nitwit Kasich brings it up on his show.

As if people needed a reminder about Chapiquiddick, he has to name his dog Splash.

Are you saying he really did this? I thought it was just a slam from here. He really named his dog splash? How incredibly insensitive and stupid

Am missing a few pieces of this puzzle. Could you explain this a little more, please?

I saw Michael Reagan on Hannity and Combs yesterday mention that the piece was simply satire. I was floored. If Kennedy didn't know this fact that one thing. But if he took a sentence out of context from a piece of satire, and knowingly used it to smear Alito hes a slime!.........Yeah , I know he's a slime anyway, but in any case, its time for someone to whisper in the guys ear,,,,,,,,,Hey Teddy , its two o' clock, the bar is closed, and its time for you to retire!

The following was copied from a Kennedy blog several weeks ago--I don't think it was recognized as satire either... My brother was killed by Republican policies.

Satire is a subtle form of humor. Lefties have no sense of humor at all so it usually escapes moonbat attention altogether.

For the record, Teddy's 3 brothers were killed by:

1.) The Nazis
2.) A leftist fruitcake Castro groupie (A sort of proto John Kerry w/o the trust fund)
3.) A Palestinian terrorist with ties to Arafat's Al Fatah

Too bad Teddy has spent his entire carrier aiding the leftwing and middleastern heirs to his brother's murderers. I guess you can't expect intellectual honesty out of a man who would betray the loyalties of his own flesh and blood.

"I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them,"

D'Souza certainly has Swimmer Kennedy properly pegged. About the left wingers feeding Kennedy junk, it reminds me of the unflattering shots of John Kerry that consistently appeared in the media. Some, like the blue astronaut suit, he facilitated himself but the ones like throwing and catching the football, playing hacky-sack etc. almost seemed like the media was trying to make him look stupid and not like a regular guy.

But on second thought, Kerry facilitated those too, simply by being himself, LOL!

I just saw your post...and when you think about it...one of the things they have critisized Bush about is the "wrong intelligence" going into Iraq....

Well, that was from Tenant, who was a Clinton appointee.

I think they are up to no good next Wednesay.... Reid seemed adamant that nothing happen until they caucus... why? is my question unless they are planning a coup of a sort -- like Ried's infamous close the doors episode a few months ago.

This is the same generation that didn't know we used typewriters back in the 60's and 70's; also the same generation that gets their 'news' from a comedy channel.

He has had the dog for at least a few years. That you (and millions of other Americans) did not know this is yet another example of media double standard. Imagine if a Republican with Kennedy's baggage had done a similarly "insensitive" thing.

I think I read that Frist said that until this is done..and the floor vote is done...NOTHING..NADA..ZILCH will get done in the Senate...

and we know that the hearings into the NSA "scandal" is scheduled to start the first week of Feb...so that would have to be stopped also..I would think..

Well now that we know that the piece was SATIRE;
it explains a lot of things since Kennedy took portions of the article out of context!
No wonder Alito looked so confused when Kennedy read it.

""I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them,"

That's what happens when your brain and liver are pickled.

I thought it interesting that Kennedrunk and Schoo-mer
read from PREPARED closing statements.
