Jan. 13, 2006 Today, according to Pakistani military sources, U.S. aircraft attacked a compound known to be frequented by high level al Qaeda operatives. Pakistani officials tell ABC News that al Qaeda leader Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's top lieutenant, may have been among them.
U.S. intelligence for the last few days indicated that Zawahiri might be in the location or about to arrive, although there is still no confirmation from U.S. officials that he was among the victims.

Fox News has been reporting that they've received confirmation that Zawahiri was targeted in the strike. Did you ever get the sound on your internet stream fixed, BTW?
Darn, I only get cards from Steve Forbes. ;^)
What, about the card? Well, I didn't give this year and I didn't get my card. Previous years when I gave, I got a card. So, it WAS true for me. Maybe everyone else who didn't give got a card.
Scorecard (needs updating)
Yeah, he was targeted, but was he actually killed? That's what we want to know.
Ping
Zawhiri is the defacto leader of the origional al-Qaeda network with Bin Laden off in a cave in the middle of nowhere or dead.
Zarqawi is the leader of his own terrorist group that is large and quite deadly. It is the number one terrorist group in Europe, the Arab world, and Africa. It is now under the name al-Qaeda, but it is lead by Zarqawi.
It's a fighter. No, it's a bomber. Now you see it, now you don't. I thought that image on Radar was a little fast for a Hummingbird. Meet the Stealth, F117A Nighthawk, or if you're a terrorist, the bombs it carries. Some have called it "the ghost," some of those (the terrorists) are now no more than ghosts.
I never wanted anything in return, but I have gotten well over $20 dollars worth of mail in return asking for more money! I feel I am being a drain on the RNC now!
Now that is real interesting......a FAE type charge using aluminun instead of fuel oil......
non-liquid FAEs containing aluminum particles. These explosives demonstrated greater impulse (pressure over time) than non-augmented explosives.
Used in IRAQ
Sewell also quoted the Marine Corps aviator who was the first to use the new Hellfire warhead in combat. '"That thing was awesome, the Marine said. I thought it was a 2,000-pound JDAM going off.'"
You'll excuse me if I'm a little skeptical, since this is about the tenth time this guy has "died." I was with Bush in the begining, but it's slowly becoming clear that the effectiveness of his response to 9/11 has far short of stellar. It has been almost 4 1/2 years since 9/11, and the best we can possibly say is that Zawahiri *may* be dead, bin Laden *may* have died of natural causes, and most of our military is bogged down in a pointless war 1000 miles away from where our real enemies are. As a point of comparison, we defeated Hitler in about 3 1/2 years.
Sorry for the rant, but I think we've been patient long enough. If Bush isn't going to take out al Qaeda then he should step aside and let someone else do it. I can't understand why we don't have 500k troops in eastern Afghanistan right now. Neutralizing the organization is not good enough. I want them DEAD!
If the reports of bin Laden's demise or incapacity are true, then Zawahiri is as big a target as is Zarqawi.
I'm not aware of Zarqawi having any connections to Africa other than recruiting. He certainly is not the #1 terrorist in Africa.
If it's true, the locals will hide any evidence of his death before Paki troops can arrive to confirm. We may never know for sure.
Uh-huh. Thank you for your opinion.
Awwwwwwww....poor thing.
