Another, ANOTHER, attempt to marginalize faith... FAILED!!
I agree with this.
I didn't watch it, but listened to Laura Ingraham's critique on Monday. Sounds like a show that's going to sink like a rock.
Well, three cheers for the Awl-benny Herrel.
Now if NBC could only figure out how get "The Book of Daniel" out of network television (too many red states!) and establish distribution to those theatres that are showing "Brokeback Mountain". Hmmm.
I dunno, except for the main character's occupation being episcopal priest, isn't this kind of a typical, mainstream Hollywood family?
We saw a promo spot for it last night. the voice-over says, "Everyone is talking about 'The Book of Daniel'", then proceeds to show clips from the show.
No mention that all the "talking" is about how vile it is and how it's ratings are tanking.
I am wondering if there is any significance to the main character being named Daniel Webster.
Trying to get the audience by putting on something more depraved than the other channel...
Predictable.
bashes religion and families?
Sounds like it fits the the dem's and lib's view of "family values".
They better rally around this quick if it's going to be saved.
"Pill plays the angst-riddled 16-year-old daughter Grace who dabbles in drug dealing to support her Japanese animation hobby. Can this be real?"
Nah. You'd need a lot more money than you could get with drug dealing to support an anime addiciton. Maybe if she were selling Yu-Gi-Oh cards instead...
Hollywood just refuses to get it, the guy behind this train wreck was behind a brief sitcom called TITUS, which was actually very funny... offensive to be sure, but funny.
This was a bomb before it even aired, just seeing the preview ads for it you could tell it was a stinker... I'm amazed NBC signed up for it.. but I'm even more amazed that after they had the product in their hands, they actually aired it.
Look Hollywood, wake up. Many of you guys may not want to believe in God and feel that the rest (about 80%+ or more last I saw) of America does about religion. That's fine. However don't think you can insult your audience and think people are going to sit and watch.
This thing was so over the top in trying to portray the folks in the world who are religious as hypocritical bores... just like the immorral world of beverly hills and LA that you guys tend to live in.. to make yourselves feel superior because "at least you aren't being hypocritical" is an insult to everyone.
I think you found a way to make Cop Rock look like a good idea NBC.. keep it up.
(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie. Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")
The show is basically an overdone and poorly acted SOAP OPERA, that just happens to be about an Episcopal priest and his family, which is plagued by more problems than possible in real life. It is in reality a send-up of revisionist "Christians", and has nothing whatsoever to do with us orthodox folks. That sermon in tonight's episode on "welcoming" and "acceptance" is not too far off the mark from what you might hear from a revisionist priest or pastor in real life.
The BAD part is how they trivialize Jesus Christ!!!! They just show the "Jesus" character appearing to this revisionist, and uttering brief inane comments. That's the part of the series that's anti-Christian.
I predict that "Daniel" will not last long.
