And we thought we had some crazy politicians.

Zhirinovskiy is a loose cannon.
Actually, Ronald Reagan, the AFL-CIO, and the CIA all worked closely with Solidarity and the Pope to bring down the Soviet Union.
But even at its most effective, the CIA could never have affected a papal election.

I've read a few books by ex-soviet intelligence officers, the not so surprising conclusion is that the assassination attempt on the pope was under Andropov's direct orders.

Andropov...the name that makes me think of the song "The ABCs of Dead Russian Leaders".

I'm familiar with that song! The letter "a" is first in line, Andropov's dead so he'll do just fine!

But how many times did the Americans want to kill Fidel Castro? Hundreds of times.
What a bunch of bull. Does anyone doubt that America could have killed Castro anytime they wanted to? If the U.S. had wanted Castro dead, he would have assumed room temperature decades ago. Cold-blooded killers like this guy assume that everyone thinks like they do.

THE best thing that ever happened to mankind is that the (Islamic, KGB, nut-case, ?) assassination attempt on the Pope FAILED.
There are literally billions of people, in former communist states from Russia to Ukraine to China to South America, that can thank the Pope for their new freedom to join the modern world and the modern human race.
FREEPERS and many others around the world have the OBLIGATION to ensure that the future billions of mankind have the same choice and benefit in the same way.

"So what if the Pope is a spiritual leader?" the hardline nationalist politician continued. "The point at issue was his Polish origin. No-one was attacking the Roman Catholic Church, Rome or the Vatican. After all, he was specially put in place there. There has never been a pope from Eastern Europe. We had a Spaniard, a German, but this was done specially...in order to influence Poland through this high spiritual post and to wrest it from the Soviet Union."---Vladimir Zhirinovsky, deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma and leader of the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party from http://www.adnki.com/index_2Level.php?cat=Religion&loid=8.0.248760488&par=0
Ping for future reference.
Some conspiracy theorists/freemasonry critics have made allusion to the RCC has having been controlled by illuminati -like groups with ulterior motives. Illuminati-type theories of occultic conspiracies also allude to spiritual warfare in their 'craft'. This article provides a slight bit of insight which would confirm such perspectives.

The first thing I thought when Pope John Paul the Great was appointed was "This is a danger to communism," The second thing I thought was that they would try to kill him.
