CINCINNATI -- Carson Palmer's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback tore ligaments in his left knee when he was hit by Pittsburgh's Kimo von Oelhoffen on his first pass during the Steelers' 31-17 playoff victory Sunday.

His brother Jordan plays down here at UTEP. Pretty good, but needs to develop more. Played WR until he was a senior in high school.

I'm pretty sure there is insurance for this type of thing.

All you sports fans out there go see Glory Road tomorrow. I heard previews in Dallas and New York City were getting standing ovations. Skip Bareback Mountin. BTW my oldest son plays ball with Don Haskins' grandson. Hit 3/3 from beyond the 3 pt. line tonight.

Palmer is a hard worker. I think he will come back.

A dislocated knee cap is VERY serious. You typically wind up tearing everything (tendons, ligaments, cartilage) in the joint.

This could easily end his career or dramatically limit his ability to play.

was it a nasty hit? Sure thing.

was it intentional? No way in hell.

You can't intentionally do that. He had no idea where the ball was (his face was in the ground).

Look at his reaction after the hit. He was disgusted with himself over it.

That hit was nasty despite the gentleman Palmer was about it. The guy fell past Palmer, came back and pulled Palmer's knees in sideways. He didn't fall toward Carson, he went after him no matter what they want to say IMO.

You are exactly right. That reaction by that thug afterwards was totally phony. The Steelers are thugs, even by the standards of what the NFL has become.

I shudder to think what they'll try to do to Harrison and Manning this week.

Palmer is one of the best we've seen.

To get an idea of what his 2005 season produced as compared to the other QB's in the league, check out this link.

And keep in mind this was year 2. That's pretty good company he's with up there.

Kimo von Oelhoffen has more class in his little toe than you have in your whole friggin body. You have no clue.

Just had surgery for almost the same thing except the knee cap. Don't know the results yet as still on crutches. It was career ending for me, but my potential ended 28 years ago.

He laid one way, then turned sideways to reach up for Palmer after the play was over in another direction away from where he fell.

It was stupid, I don't think he wanted to end a career, no!

That's remarkably stupid.

The hit wasn't dirty. I've heard no actual NFL player suggest it was. Football is a contact sport.

I have enough class not to roll on a guy's knee when the play was over. That was not momentum. He did that on purpose.
