Reid on Conclusion of Alito testimony
reid.senate.gov ^ | 01/12/2006 | Harry Reid

Posted on 01/12/2006 4:13:48 PM PST by NapkinUser

“I have followed the Alito hearings closely. Democrats on the Committee did their jobs by asking tough questions about important issues: civil rights, privacy, environmental protections, the danger of unchecked presidential power and others. Unfortunately, Judge Alito’s responses did little to address my serious concerns about his 15-year judicial record.

“I have not forgotten that Judge Alito was only nominated after the radical right wing of the President's party forced Harriet Miers to withdraw. The right wing insisted that Justice O'Connor be replaced with a sure vote for their extreme agenda. Four days of hearings have shown that Judge Alito is no Sandra Day O'Connor.

“Senate Democrats will meet next week to discuss the nomination.”

"Four days of hearings have shown that Judge Alito is no Sandra Day O'Connor."

Four microseconds of vision could do the same.

Yeah, tell us what's what, Dingy Harry.

No filibuster? Aww, but the DUmmies are threatening to walk out of the Democratic party if there isn't one! Of course, they threaten that at least once a week over something or other...

They got their behinds handed to them in the hearings, but I predict that they will find a way to dig a deeper hole.

IMO Alito is intellectually second only to Bork as terms as performance in hearings though I believe he & Clarence Thomas will be very close to each other in both reasoning and shared experience (subject to DemoncRAT character assassination) when it comes to actual performance on the bench.

How did Lindsey Graham put it? "What normal people can figure out in 30 seconds can take the Senate three days."

We mock other countries for their "Show Trials" yet allow this "Show Hearing" to be conducted and broadcast to the world. How did most Democrats grow up without a sense of decency and shame?

If the Dims decide to filibuster, I say let 'em do it. Don't negotiate; force them straight to zero option. Alito is extremely popular, and if the Democrats want rope, we should give them all they want.

As one Freeper put it the other day, Alito has all the right enemies.

At this point I predict that most of the Dems have given up defeating Alito and are now more concerned with trying to downplay and damage control the incredible negitive perception they generated in these hearings. When columnists in the Times are calling Schumer a self absorbed windbag, they know they've gone too far.

Stick a fork in them. They're done. Senate Judiciary Donks make jackasses of themselves. It's a blessing that Harriet what's-her-name got sidelined

A fact I'm sure I will thank God for throughout the next 20 years or more.
