Let me guess what the will come from the Wal Mart bashers around here.
"Soon available at your local Wal Mart at an everday low price." Always.
They are not going to be able to sell cars here at a profit unless they revalue their currency or let it float. They would have to accumulate a vast number of dollars if they don't. I think they are about to learn another lesson in free market capitalism.
China's Chery Automobile Co-sounds like chevy
where do their engine designs an trannies come from> hmm
That would be the high-end Japanese and EU models, then. Not too many American models in this group.
Has Briklin ever been involved in any venture that actually, you know, made money?
If it comes under $8,000, there I would be willing to buy one. Especially if it lasts to at least 100,000 miles.

I am going out on a limb...I bet Chinese cars suck.
Recently one of this pieces of junk failed miserably in crash tests. its not like the Chinese care about safety, or people for that matter...They are good at making cheap stuff, cheap. I wouldn't trust them with a car.
Give it 10-15 years and everyone will be driving around in these little Chinese potatoes just like they do in Japanese and Korean ones now.
If China makes a good car that meets all requirements: buy it! The Japanese and Koreans won't roll over and die: they'll roll up their sleeves and compete. There won't be a monopoly, and our cars will get cheaper and better. And China will shuck off its totalitarian government the moment it stops them from competing.
Some Indian automobile companies, such as TATA, are starting to enter the international market, if not the US market.
For the most part, American car companies have put very little into the small car market. Two reasons--lack of expertice and low profits.
So we stand in 2006 where GM and Ford have perhaps too many apples in the truck/SUV basket.
Toyota, Honda, Lexus have hybrids. GM has none, and Ford has one.*
GM is showing a Camaro that they may introduce in 2009. Sloooooooooooow, tooooooooo cautious GM.
* GM puts an electric motor on some trucks and calls it hybrid power, but it is NOT involved when the vehicle is moving.
So more power to Koreans and Chinese, if they want to exploit market segments which were abandoned and poorly served by American companies.
Might I suggest "the Chery Corrette?"
