NBC is promoting the network's mid-season replacement series "The Book of Daniel" with language that implies it is a serious drama about Christian people and Christian faith. Network hype and the mainstream media call it "edgy," "challenging" and "courageous." But one look at the characters will likely give you a distinctly different impression.
The main character is Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her mid-day martinis. The Webster family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer, and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter. At the office, his lesbian secretary is sleeping with his sister-in-law. Perhaps the most controversial character of all -- a white-robed, long-haired and bearded "Jesus" who appears to Daniel and holds discussions with him, often openly challenging contemporary interpretations of church teachings.
According to AgapePress, NBC affiliates in Indiana and Arkansas have become the first television stations to announce that they will not be showing the controversial debut of the new show "The Book of Daniel." Officials at the two Nexstar Broadcasting Group stations, Terre Haute's WTWO-TV and Little Rock's KARK-TV, announced that they will pre-empt the inaugural episodes of "Daniel" scheduled to air Friday evening at 9:00 EST, January 6.
You can ask your local NBC affiliate station to do the same!

Oh, fer cryin' out loud!
Just turn the damn thing off!
I am fed up with anal retentive "conservative" radicals in liberal sheep's clothing that don't have enough damn sense to know how to operate an on-off button.
Instead, they harangue everybody else, all the while sitting in their living rooms, watching this crap, clucking their tongues and making plans for their silly boycotts...and enjoying the thrill of watching the show.
But admit it?
Oh, no, never!
What's next?
Public book burnings of "Harry Potter"?
Some people just need to get a life.
"just about every show she ever enjoyed had an exceedingly short run"
Sounds like "The Cooler".
The only thing that surprises me is that HBO didn't run the show first.
Would it have been better if the guy was a real estate agent or small businessman?
How about doing a serious show about a real Christian family with real Christian faith?
The networks don't have enough courage.
You personify the proof of your own assertion.
NO....the show is too 'busy'. I don't consider him a real religious figure anyway....he was a reverend with a wife?
I agree.
Yes, joy and happiness just don't cut it in the upside down world of (fill in the blank)
Personal, individual attacks are an invitation for me to be really nasty.
Why would you invite that?
Are you one of them anal retentive so-called "conservatives" that know what is best for me?
Go pound sand.
No, I won't, I believe in the first amendment. People need to quit trying to infringe on the rights of others. You don't like it, please don't watch. If others do the same, the show won't last. (man, do I sound like a Libertarian, or what?)
One of the reviews I read indicated that the show was trying for a "Six Feet Under" thing and the same kind of ensemble cast with inter-locking stories, and some shock value etc.
The truth of the matter is, you can't shock people anymore on primetime network TV. Folks have access to much more a shocking entertainments. Good writing/acting has to carry the day on network TV.
Exactly. Let the "market" decide, just like it has for so many really crappy shows that never made it past three or four airings.
I really liked the Chris Elliot show Get A Life...but the market decided :(
I'd be happy to ask them to cancel it for the fact that its a lousy show....
But now that Phil Burress, idiot extraordinaire, has stuck his head into this, I won't.
Oh, I got mindless rantings.
But that's neither here nor there.
I do got an "on-off" button and I just turned you off.
Have a nice day.
I watched only a little, and family members told me about scenes they had watched. Some parts were offensive but it sounds more as if the plots were just a little absurd. No family can have so many problems and calamities. It just isn't realistic. OK, I know it's only TV but it was just too much to take in one show.
Give 'em hell, SgtMajor, you didn't say a dang thing wrong.
