Ask your NBC station to cancel "The Book of Daniel"

NBC is promoting the network's mid-season replacement series "The Book of Daniel" with language that implies it is a serious drama about Christian people and Christian faith. Network hype – and the mainstream media – call it "edgy," "challenging" and "courageous." But one look at the characters will likely give you a distinctly different impression.

The main character is Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her mid-day martinis. The Webster family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer, and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter. At the office, his lesbian secretary is sleeping with his sister-in-law. Perhaps the most controversial character of all -- a white-robed, long-haired and bearded "Jesus" who appears to Daniel and holds discussions with him, often openly challenging contemporary interpretations of church teachings.

According to AgapePress, NBC affiliates in Indiana and Arkansas have become the first television stations to announce that they will not be showing the controversial debut of the new show "The Book of Daniel." Officials at the two Nexstar Broadcasting Group stations, Terre Haute's WTWO-TV and Little Rock's KARK-TV, announced that they will pre-empt the inaugural episodes of "Daniel" scheduled to air Friday evening at 9:00 EST, January 6.

You can ask your local NBC affiliate station to do the same!

I've seen it...it'll die of it's own painful death. It was a grab bag of stupidity.

I missed it which is not surprising since I don't watch too much TV. Medved reviewed it and said it was much worse than he thought it would be.

bad ratings will kill it faster than any number of call ever could.

This is just stiuped, have people not learned. Do not call; Do not protest; Do not write and give any attention to the show. Any controversy and calls for protest will only draw attention to the show and keep it on the air longer. Ratings alone will kill this show really fast.

"bad ratings will kill it faster than any number of call ever could."

I agree. I watched the 1st hour of the 2hr premier. It was bad. The acting was wooden and the script just bad. If people stop giving it free press it will die quietly.

I agree. It had way too much stuff going on...and was over-acted. I wasn't offended --but this family is way too dysfunctinal to be normal.

It would be more effective to pressure the advertisers by letting them know their products will be boycotted if they continue to advertise during the show.

From the reviews I have read and Freeper reports, this show is going to die on its own very quickly. No need to give it any additional attention as controversy will only prolong its existence.

Great line. I know you meant "...but this family is way too dysfunctinal to be REALISTIC." But I like your line better..

I agree. We should even stop talking about it here. Starting now. Well, besides that part. Starting now.

Okay, really. This time. No more talking about the show starting ri-i-i-i-i-ght...

Now.

regardless of content, i have not watched nbc, cbs or abc for the last 10 yrs or so. i dont even get that option on my dish. the five bucks a month is worth more to me than the entire population of said networks.

I have a cousin I'll call to coax into watching it, if she hasn't already done so.  Ever since we were little kids, just about every show she ever enjoyed had an exceedingly short run.

If she likes it, that'll be the kiss of death for The Book of Daniel.

What was that show a year or two ago about a congressman who comes to Washington to "make a difference"? The media loved it, proclaiming it the next "Mr. Smith".

I can't seem to find it in my current TV Guide.

"""I missed it which is not surprising since I don't watch too much TV"""

Me either. I can't watch that infernal tube or I will become hyonotized and fall asleep. I have threatened many times in my house to smash that TV if they don't turn it off, get up off the couch and do something.

I don't agree. Let NBC sink a whole bunch of money in this dog and let it die a "market share" death. It just means more $$$ down the toilet for the leftists. Without their treasury they can't live. Isn't it funny, they hate capitalism but they need the money. Let them learn the lesson.

I'm so sorry, I used leftists and learn in the same paragraph. I should know better by now. But, what the he!!, I'm an optimist.
