Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.
WEDS., 9:30AM ET, C-SPAN
There's a good one from Kate O'Bierne on Diane Feinstein..."Senator Not-Everywoman"...at National Review.
My question is, why were any Republicans so fearful about putting forward a Conservative like Alito? These Democratic Senators are making such asses out of themselves, Bush could appoint anyone he wants. The MSM are fit to be tied and the American people either don't care or feel its the President's right to appoint anyone they want.
When/if Stevens or Ruth "Buzzy" Ginsburg retires Bush should assured to appoint Brown, Owens, etc. with extreme confidence.
Thanks!
Isn't that almost verbatim what Ted "Splash" Kennedy said during the Bork hearings?
Russ Feingold plays peek a boo with Mrs. Alito as the hearings continue into day 3.
I've been searching .. but haven't yet found anything about him taking the bar exam

Yes. And Alito's answer might be misconstrued as "in agreement" depending on how you interpret it. Discussed at http://www.confirmthem.com/?p=2071. Has no impact on confirmation, but may give traditionalists some (temporary, IMO) heartburn.
Can anyone explain what is the impact/meaning of "findings" ...
Congressional findings that justify their creation of law. The Federal Government can only make law that is within the powers granted to it under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution. Congress has to justify that its laws comport with the grant of power in the Constitution.
Sessions picked up on this very well - most of the discussion was related to Rybar, the machine gun case. Sessions suggested that the law should be amended to address this infirmity, and all would go on hunky dory. Sessions used example of stolen car laws, and how federal law can get involved in that.
LOL! I am SO stealing that graphic, at the first available opportunity! :)
Is there any doubt that Gore or Kerry would have nominated 100% Grade A certified liberals?
But guess which soundbytes will make the evening news airwaves....the 'rats mission will be accomplished, in this respect.
Thanks for your cogent explanations. As a non-lawyer, I need them!
"He went straight from law school into politics and as we know too well, he has been there ever since
Same as Joe Biden"
Same as Kenndy and most of the left. Many of them never held a private sector job in their lives. They have lived off the government dole. That is one difference between Reps and Dems.
Yes, I have also stolen it. I don't know where you find this stuff! LOL
Although I agree that Alito is a better candidate than Meiers, I will never agree with the tactics used to get Meiers to withdraw. Many conservative pundits lost my respect over their behavior last fall, and they will have a hard time regaining it.
Believe it or not, there are still a good number who remain bitter about that. Bwahahahahaha!!!!
That was really funny. Still laughing. These people are pathetic.
BTW... Kerry's in India right now.
Everywhere! ;-)
