here I are Txsleuth...thank you for the ping.

I took a quick early morning nap, (after a Waffle House breakfast with Honey), only to hear the discouraging words from FOXNews that the dems might want more rounds of questions, and Brit saying the more time the dems take, the more likely it is they could somehow thwart the nomination.

(I do hope maybe I misheard the probability of that possibility)

All I need to know is that he was against Condoleeza Rice. It would appear that he was uninterested in her qualifications for her post, which were tantamount to her appointment, and her present ability to carry them out quite successfully.

Brit has been guessing what COULD happen since the hearings started. I like Brit but his opining for excitement is irritating me.

The Dems like Feingold and Schumer, were characteristically disrespectable and tried, unsuccessfully to rile Alito.

I think they feel defeated. Schumer doesn't need an excuse to be an @ss, but he was particularly vile.

Stick a fork in these proceedings, their done, along with the Dems hopes of making Alito look bad. It's simply not possible.

I agree with ken's statement at the beginning of the thread that the Republicans strategy has been working quite well.

The Fox analysis sounds accurate, however, if the Dems go too far (such as they did with John Roberts) as reflected in subsequent polls they may be compelled to back off.

The concern that FNC raises reflects the NYT's headline that Dems talked all about themselves and didn't let Alito speak.

I would see that as instructions from the MSM to try again.

That's a start... but no where near "all [you] need to know" if you are to understand pretty, pretty, pretty Mr Byrd.

Funny you should mention that about O'Connor. I was wondering the same thing yesterday. If that situation were to develop - would the SCOTUS (with her abstaining) be the place to rule on it?

"Have you ever watched him on CSPAN? He rants incoherently about President Bush and the war. I've never heard him say anything remotely intelligent."

No, but the man is quite old and feeble, and at this point, I just consider the source when funny words come out of his mouth.

Yes, Leahy opened the morning by saying that there were a lot of inconsistencies in Alito's testimony from yesterday, and they would need time to question him about them. Specter said that he wanted to complete round 2 of questioning today. Frankly, the longer this goes on, the worse the dems look.

Durbin got stung by his own "inconsistencies" in his record this morning already.

I simply see it as not leaving a vacancy during hearings.

It's further incentive to delay delay delay, obstruct obstruct obstruct. Not the primary variable in the calculus, but just imagine (that is just ponder) the differences in unfolding events if O'Connor had stepped down last July.

Obviously, others disagree that it plays in the calculus at all. I'd just prefer that it not become "the way it's done" from now on, but O'Connor set the precedent.

LOL---no wonder you needed a nap...you were up late last night..

I posted your link to the story about the 5 Congresscritters being targeted in the Abramoff "scandal" on the Tony Snow thread this morning...I hope you don't mind.

There were a lot of people that posted on yesterday's thread that Brit seemed unusually "cautious" about Alito's chances...and kept bringing up a possible "problem"

So he is doing it again today??? Yikes!!!
