Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.

This already occurs unfortunately. Lots of qualified and good people simply won't put their families and themselves through the meat grinder. So I suppose it's no wonder we have such doofus's sitting in congressional seats.
My pleasure. It gives me an excuse to read selected portions more carefully - with a critical eye on the questions and on the answers. Judge Alito is doing a positively incredible job. I am awestruck by the breadth and depth of his command.
And in the tough venue of "no notes and all questions are in bounds," he has given only a couple answers that don't fully satisfy my sense of "the way it ought to be," and I think I'm one of the toughest customers out here ;-)
You're absolutely right about the value in reading the transcripts. And I'm very impressed with the judge. I also think he has the patience of Job :)
Okay..guys....my brain is still trying to get revved...
I am planning on sending flowers to Mrs. Alito...from Free Republic...but, I need the address of the building that the hearing is in...quick...
ANY HELP FOR ME??
Hart Senate Office Building Room 216
Thank you!!
I guess you're off the hook.
:-)
Oscar Goodman-the mayor of Las Vegas-being the epitome of that somewhat sordid alliance.
I'm almost certain that Mr. Reid isn't the exception to the rule.
I believe you are entirely mischaracterizing what he said.
He was entirely sympathetic to Mrs. Alito, and correctly ascribing the fault with the dems, and her reaction to the sympathy of Graham. He asked the panel how something this 'theatrical'..........then switched it to 'dramatic' would affect the hearings.
He was in no way implying that Mrs. Alito was being 'dramatic.' But having the nominee's wife leave in tears is indeed a 'dramatic' moment.
There was no cause whatsoever to be 'disappointed' in Brit's report. He was completely fair and sympathetic, and he's the only one who has been that I know of. JMHO.
I can. Anderson 180 has taken it upon himself to channel Aaron Brown's rotten media soul.
The last thing we need to do is draw attention to a third-rate news channel and it's powderpuff news anchor.
"How about bets on how many times we here:
Vanguard
Stare Decisis
Roe
CAP
today?"
-My abacus doesn't count that high!
"I see Kennedy, Schumer, Durbin, DiFi, Leahy, Kohl and Feingold and I think of Slytherin"
Don't forget joe (blowin' in the wind) biden.
I'm from Cal and since we have Boxer DiFi is our 'good' Senator. LOL
"Diane is asking Kennedy to read the last line of the article"
I thought that was very telling. Sounded like a teacher coaching a little child. I think the Dems are coaching each other and making sure each far left talking point is brought up (some - over and over). They aren't acting as individual Senators, they're acting as a one-minded bloc. The last group of Dems have their lines handed to them at the last moment to rehash or cover questions they think will help them win this one. Like Roberts, Alito is allowing them to look foolish, without falling for their 'tricks'. Hoo-ya!
I mean, what is the actual FR protocol for this type of situation?
I can see it in a Hallmark card! (cue the dried-ice smoke NOW!)
I know I picked on your senatorsXXOO Many Happy Returns! Gramma
Because they had no class
But since then I've realized
That my two mutants often need a kick in the.... Well, you get the picture.
Our local ABC news at 10:00 last night starts with Mrs. Alito leaves chambers in tears after senator calls her husband a bigot. Reminds me of the game in one of my college classes where then people leave the room and then you tell one person a story and he tells the next person and on down the line and at the end there is nothing about the original story remaining.
I know the game...and we know the MSM is all into playing games, don't we??
Feingold is being very hateful...
You expect corruption from Oscar Goodman -- being a mob attorney and all and, sadly from senators like Reid... will be interesting to watch this unfold.... Personally, I think the dems have done themselves a lot of harm this week.
"Is Kennedy really shaking?" - CurlyBill
"No, I was just kidding" - mystery-ak
His hands were definitely shaking after trying to make a big thing out of CAP and being reprimanded by a female voice (Diane F.???) to read all the points on his cheat-sheet. What a tool!
That's her true nature. Anything else is just an act.
