We are now in the second week of January and still we have no official challenger to run against Hillary Clinton in November. Time is quickly running out.
In an ordinary situation this would be bad enough. It never serves the interests of common good to allow a Democrat to run unopposed. This, however, is no ordinary situation. People who understand the threat posed by Hillary Clinton are counting on New Yorks Republican establishment to present a strong and credible candidate to fight her from now until Election Day. So far, this call to battle has been ignored and or mishandled by a small but powerful circle of people both in and out of politics.
To the great consternation and dismay of conservatives all across the nation, Governor George Pataki and his gang of Albany cronies have stonewalled any effort to launch a proper attack.
For their own selfish reasons Pataki and his gang have done everything they could to stop the only genuine conservative willing to take on this challenge. They have successfully wasted at least four months with a phony candidate they now want us to believe they are angry with because she was so inept. They thought they could sell New Yorks Republican primary voters Jeannine Pirro as the one who could beat Hillary Clinton. They completely overlooked the ability of conservatives to do their own research into Pirros qualities. We found that she was pro- choice, pro gay marriage pro gun control, pro affirmative action and anti 2nd amendment. In short she is Hillary Clinton with better legs. The idea that voters will turn away from the real Hillary, and vote for a fake Hillary was and is ridiculous.
Mrs. Pirros candidacy collapsed as far back as Thanksgiving, yet because of the selfishness of Governor Pataki, we have no replacement for her as Hillarys challenger. This is because he and his gang dont want a replacement. They could not care less about Hillary Clinton running unopposed. As a matter of fact they would love it. Pataki is laboring under the very naïve notion that he could draw more than flies in 2008s presidential primaries. He wants there to be no challenger to Hillary Clinton so there would be no Republican fund raising in New York other than for the very silly Mr. Patakis presidential campaign.
An unopposed Hillary Clinton means a sleeping electorate in New York and political peace, in this twisted scenario. It means that Pataki does not have to take any positions on anything of importance. It means he can spend his energies appearing to be in charge and pushing conservative "sounding" positions while standing in a corner with palms up claiming to be so upset that there was no challenger for Hillary. John Spencer upsets that plan. This is why Pataki has done everything possible to derail John Spencer.
John Spencer is everything George Pataki and Jeannine Pirro are not. He is a genuine Reagan Republican who can demand answers from Hillary Clinton on her myriad of serious faults. Pataki cares nothing about this.
Unfortunately Pataki has not been alone in this dangerous effort that could end with Clinton running unopposed or against a totally empty suit who would not be able to draw funds away from Pataki.
For months Sean Hannity promoted the candidacy of Jeannine Pirro. He gave her several valuable segments of airtime in an effort to see that she ran against Clinton. Nevertheless, it seems that the man who prides himself on his research was unable to find the facts about Pirro. Sean Hannitys hate for Clinton is such that he pushed aside logic and common political sense and desperately clung to Pirro thinking she was the only alternative. Hannity would even feed her lines. Youre a Giuliani Republican arent you? comes to mind.
Mark Levins approach was different. His political instincts told him to stay away from Jeannine Pirro and he did. He knew she was dead meat. To his credit he did not join this effort to see that Clinton ran unopposed. Now that the Peter Paul case is bubbling to the surface Mark has been great on the subject. He has pounded away at the hypocrisy and corruption of the Clinton machine over this issue again and again. There is now a next logical step for Mark to take, one that Sean should join him in.
I believe that both Sean and Mark want to stop Hillary. To say otherwise is stupid. Consequently, now is the time for both of these powerful conservative media movers to act. Now is the time for Sean Hannity to take a good look at John Spencer and see all the qualities he thought Pirro had to Beat Clinton.
Now is the time for Mark Levin to recognize that John Spencer will be the Republican nominee and start to help Spencer to ascend to the stature he needs to bring the Paul matter to the fore.
Mr.Hannity, Mr. Levin, it is now up to you. The ball is in your court. To fight Hillary Clinton we need the type of support you men can provide. More than most, you know the dangers of another Clinton administration.
It is not enough to keep presenting Hillary Clinton as a boogyman.
We get it! We understand she is evil. What we dont understand is what your hold up is in joining this fight.
Why, when it's so much easier to throw the bombs, make big bucks, have an almost unlimited microphone and not have to make some hard choices that you may have to be accountable or live up to.
The only way Hannity will attempt to stop her is by writing yet another book that we must rush out and buy, "now, more than ever".
>>>We are now in the second week of January and still we have no official challenger to run against Hillary Clinton in November
We aren't supposed to have and official challenger in January. The primary determining the official challenger takes place in September.
I think the 'Pubbies want Hillary to win. Not sure why, though.
Unless Guiliani runs, I'm inclined to say: let your weakest run...it won't give her the "win" she needs.
And as far as I know, she hasn't officially put her hat in the ring.
Now the usual suspects will show up claiming that NYers will never vote for a conservative.
What I really wouldn't like would be another Keyes-Obama blowout. No matter who we run, it had better be a good fight.
Yes, but I think his point is, they have no strong candidate in mind to go up against her. While I hear that Mrs Pirro was not strong enough, by undercutting her, the RNC is allowing the wicked witch of ark to spend her time elsewhere instead of at home, defending her positions, spending her war chest, and insisting she wanted to be senator, not Quee- President.
She's only two years into her Senate term in '08. This means that she can either a) resign her Senate seat, or b) hold on to it and look weak a la Lieberman '00.
Reasons why it would be good if Hillary lost:
Obviously, she's out of the Senate. And during the '08 primaries, she's coming off of a loss. She'll have to fight hard to get the presidential nomination when it should have been a cakewalk. That will empty out her war chest before the election proper, helping to ensure a Republican victory.
Who was that?
I nominate Mark Levin to be the next United States Senator from NY...
unfortunately, I don't live in NY. LOL
I don't consider not living in NY as unfortunate.
If she does run and wins and resigns after a year, the governor MUST BE a Dem. He names the replacement. And if Golisano is the candidate for governor, he could take the win.
The Dems want to know who the Repub candidate is so they can select what will probably be another carpetbagger. They don't want any possibility of a Senate seat going to a Republican via a Republican Governor. The Dems really have a dilemma.
In fairness, she also has a prettier face.
