WHAT ARE YOU FOR: SUCCESS OR FAILURE? (SMASH vs. Filner
The Military Outpost via MicheleMalkin.Com (Thanks Michele) ^ | Smash

SATURDAY AFTERNOON, I attended an "Out of Iraq" forum at a local church, featuring a keynote address by anti-war Congressman Bob Filner. After his speech, Filner opened up the floor for questions. He fielded a few softballs from the largely friendly crowd.

Then he called on me.

I enjoyed this read. Michele Malkin had a link to a page at http://www.indepundit.com/archive2/2006/01/smash_vs_filner.html

I followed a link from there to The Military Outpost that had a transcript of the questions and answers.

When you knock someone off of their talking points who has no real belief in something they sound like idiots. This Congressman was a wanker. It is possible to lay out an argument about the choice to go to war, the follow up plans, the current situation and why it may or may not be working but the left is just full of people playing to the unspoken truth that their stance is driven by hating Bush. Look at Viet Nam. Kennedy got us involved with it, Johnson escalated it yet Nixon became the target when it dragged on. Clinton could continue to bomb Iraq, starve the citizens and that was okay.

Unreal.

Thanks for posting. . .

. . .and yes, 'we have to get involved' someway. .. somehow; and turn back the tide of propaganda that serves our enemies. . .both abroad and those right here at home. . .thtose who not only look like they could be your neighbor. . .but who are, in fact. . .your political enemy next door. . .

It appeared to me the Congressman couldn't or wouldn't answer a simple question. A woman asked, "define success". She might as well have asked "define the word 'is' for me".

No wonder they're so vocal...the feedback they constantly get is from the leftist/liberal echo chamber. When asked pointed questions about their posturing, the sweat pours and the skin pales and the nervous laughter begins. Looks like Filner didn't expect to being "outed" in what they thought was friendly territory.

Somebody has to be organizing these vets.
They started speaking out everywhere about the same time Bush started to fight back. They are calling talk shows, s-span etc., and now town meetings. Good!

Ah, my Congresswimp!

He actually has an opponent in the primary, Juan Vargas, who has been successful in elections for city council and state assembly. The primary should be interesting.

I hope that the same question will be put to Vargas - it would WIN the primary election for him if he gave the right answer. The district is more than 50% Hispanic, and many Hispanics are veterans, supporters and employees of the military.

It makes sense; because only an idiot could believe that 'failure' is our best success in Iraq and only an idiot could hope for a 'success' they really define and know. . .as a 'failure'. . .

I just went to Juan ?Vargas' web site and sent him this note:

Dear Juan,

Mr. Filner has just stepped in it big time. He was asked at a town hall forum "Are you committed to the success of our military in Iraq, or are you resigned to failure?" by an Iraq War veteran.

Filner hemmed and hawed and in the end said he was resigned to failure. There is an audio recording and perhaps a video recording of his response.

If YOU are for a military success in Iraq, defined as "a stable, representative government that is capable of protecting itself against threats, without outside assistance", then I urge you to use this in your TV ads.

If you are not for a success in Iraq as defined above, please let me know so I can vote for someone else.

Regards -- Randy

I'll let you all know if and how Juan responds.

Mexifornia...San Diego County, the district runs 150 miles from SD Bay to Arizona, and essentially south of I-8 in SD County. It doesn't cover the beach areas however.

The Dems always win this by 65% to 75% in the general election. Filner is backed by Labor, the gays, the pinks, etc. A Democrat Hispanic has not run against him before.

i just went to Filner's web page

http://www.house.gov/filner/index.htm

Representative Bob Filner....California's Border Congressman

In his Contact section, It reads....

Send Me an Electronic Message

Due to the heavy volume of messages that I receive, I regret that I can only respond to electronic messages from individuals who live in the 51st Congressional District of California.

Too bad... I have a question I would like to ask him.

Well, sounds like even if you lived in the right district; you would not hear from him anyway. . .but why not make the point and go ahead and ask ;^). . .let him have it. . .the question, of course. . .

Hey, it coulda been worse. He didn't go Dean on Smash, telling him to sit down and shut up. He was hoping someone in the crowd would do that for him.
