DeLay Will Quit Leadership Post in House
Breitbart ^ | Today | DAVID ESPO

By DAVID ESPO AP Special Correspondent

WASHINGTON

Embattled Rep. Tom DeLay decided Saturday to give up his post as House majority leader, clearing the way for new leadership elections among House Republicans eager to shed the taint of scandal, two officials said.

These officials said DeLay, R-Texas, was preparing a letter informing fellow House Republicans of his decision. These officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt the formal announcement.

DeLay is battling campaign finance charges in Texas and was forced to step aside temporarily as majority leader last fall after he was charged in his home state. He has consistently maintained his innocence and said he intended to resume his leadership post once cleared.

A number one priority should be to get DeLay re-elected. No half measures by the RFC.

I smell a plea bargain.

I smell a wire. ;-)

(explanation--not on Delay, but on some other Pubbie who already took a plea bargain. That Ney guy looks pretty toxic about now.)

"I still stand behind my comments"

Your comments/opinions are fine! It's greasing up the slope with the beginnings of name calling that I object to and you should too!

Phat chance, she's right! Hasn't happened yet!!!

Fortunately for us, our numbers are greater than theirs, so our side can make up in quantity what it lacks in political skill.

I don't think what the Dems do... can be considered "political skills"....any more than a mass murderer's skills....could be considered "a work of art".

"The majority of the electorate as is seen by their voting patterns wants big government. Until you identify the problem, you're never going to help come up with a solution."

"Big Government," such as....?

The problem is a GOP which has decided pandering (buying) for votes (of Democrats) is a way to get re-elected.

The "solution" is to remain steadfast to one of the platform principles of the GOP.

"Actually, Reagan vetoed Tip O'Neil's higher rates of spending than what we have now."

Lol, once upon a time -- a Republican who actually vetoed a spending bill.

Why do you think the Republicans will have 55 seats after the election? Have you looked at the polls? Then once you decide how many seats the Republicans will have, you must subtract most of the RINOS from the total. I almost forgot - you should not count on the Republican senators who can be blackmailed to vote against impeachment, and then you need to subtract any senators on "our" side who think if they vote whichever way the wind is blowing in their state, the press and the Democrats will say nice things about them and not try to paint them as being as rotten as Bush. I think we probably passed 67 long ago which is why if I were you, I would not be placing any wagers.

If the democrats are that smart why are they losing one election after another?

Yes, he did step down after the indictment ( a rule ), but this is permanent ( his choice ).

I assume he's innocent until proven guilty.

As it should be. I'm not arguing with that. My problem is he let the dims and rinos dictate that he will step down. Appearance is everything in politics. Do you think the dims will say, 'what a great man Delay is for stepping down for the good of his party'. Or , 'We took another one down, drinks are on me'.

So in your infinite political wisdom and based on those "very reliable" polls (extreme sarcasm) 10 months before election day, how many seat you foresee the Republican will lose? 5 , 10, 15?

"If the democrats are that smart why are they losing one election after another?"

Because some of them are stealth infecting RINOs masquerading as Pubbies.

"I'll take the R's because if you cut taxes enough, the spending will eventually stop."

Knock it off! You're so obviously incorrect that it's laughable to the nth degree!!!

The R's cut taxes and the spending continues through borrow and spend which eventually turns out more expensive that regular old Demo tax and spend!!!

These short sighted and shallow outbursts of yours are beyond the cusp of ridiculousness! Power down while there's still time!!!

The Republicans were going to dump him to try to save themselves.

And what a shame that is.

Aha! I did not realize that hidden conspiracy by the democrats. Instead of them winning the elections as democrats, they masquerade them as Republicans, and have the Republicans win the elections. Thank you very much for this very smart point.(Extreme sarcasm)

Perhaps I wasn't clear. Reagan vetoed higher rates of spending than what we have now. The result was that Reagan signed similar high spending rates to what we have now.

Someone on Fox just said this takes the wind out of the Dims' sails. They lost their whipping boy. One week of their gloating and the story is gone. I agree this is a temporary set back in it makes Delay look guilty, BUT, if he's innocent he'll be back with a vengeance that no one will be able to stop.

Pelosi and company are a joke. The only thing carrying the Dims is their kook base and the media. I can't believe they look good to middle American.

22 Republican senators to vote with them.

I don't know, are there 22 rinos in that mix and are there going to be any behind the scene deals to get them to pony up?

"The result was that Reagan signed similar high spending rates to what we have now."

He may have, but remember -- he was cleaning up the mess Jimmy Carter made, wasn't he?...

And he DID know how to use a veto pen.

I have no idea. I have no psychic power. From on the ground where I live, I am very sure of 2 that will be gone; one the Republicans have known about, and one they were not planning to lose. Since the Democrats are feeding red meat to their base while the Republicans are eating their own, I can guess who will be crawling over broken glass to get to the polls for an off-year election, and it isn't the Republicans. That will not help them.
