Proof?
I wonder if folks like Dominic Crossan and the other members of the Jesus Seminar will file petitions in support of the guy who is suing the church.
I wonder what Pat Robertson will say about this...and put his foot in his mouth yet again.
Shouldnt be too hard to prove a man named Jesus Christ existed. Now proving he was the Messiah? Thats something else.
Of course Jesus existed..The Romans should know better than anyone since they murdered him..And a judge won't change my mind about jesus..
what a shame ... just down the street from The Vatican too ....
They all will find out soon enough. Hate to be in the atheist shoes, though.
Should read....
"Does Italian court exists? Jesus to decide"
Jesus did live, he was the Son of God, He did die for our sins.
Imagine his surprise when he discovers Jesus Christ still is alive and is preparing for a Millenial Rule. They didn't call it a Ressurrection for nothing.
If any of you have doubts and are seriously interested in knowing the truth, read Josh McDowell's "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" or Lee Strobel's "The Case for Christ".
Extremely ill-advised departure on the slippery slope. This has the potential of causing a global explosion that could set civilization back centuries.
Did Jesus exist? Italian court to decide
All those references could have been faked.
All they have to do is ask their tourism minister.
It's not really possible to prove or disprove the existence of Jesus. It's a silly thing to argue about, much less go to court about.
As an atheist, I'm quite sure someone named Jesus (Joshua, really) existed at the time. I'm quite sure someone named Joshua was probably crucified. Lots of people were crucified, and probably more than one was named Joshua.
There were a bunch of "messiahs" around in those days when the Romans ruled that region. One of them stuck, but just one.
I don't think there's any question about the existence of a physical Joshua. The question of the divinity of that Joshua is certainly one that can be raised. Still, there's no way to prove or disprove that either.
People either have faith in these things or they do not.
In my view, the court will not "decide." It will issue its opinion.
The only real decision in this matter will be on Judgment Day.
***An Italian court is tackling Jesus -- and whether the Roman Catholic Church may be breaking the law by teaching that he existed 2,000 years ago. ***
The above is what I don't understand. If the Catholic Church can be accused of breaking the law because of its teachings, then how can the Muslems, the athiests, the various Protestants, etc be allowed to teach their beliefs? Will they close down all of the churches and discussion groups? If so, we're talking out-and-out communism.
