Zap goes the politico (FR, Free Dominion Mentioned)
Globe and Mail ^ | 1/6/06 | IVOR TOSSELL

Watching political types learn to use the Web is a lot like sitting on the cottage porch in summer -- if you'll recall -- underneath the electric bug-zapping lantern. On a warm evening, you can watch nature run its course around you, punctuated only by the occasional loud pop as one of the Earth's lesser creations hits the lantern and explodes on contact. And the universe keeps turning.

The Liberals got themselves a day of negative headlines after the boorish blog of Mike Klander, a party vice-president, was uncovered. This was the one that posted a picture of Olivia Chow and a chow chow dog under the title "Separated at Birth?"; just one among many aggressively unfunny entries.

--Snip--

Later in the same week, one Gordon Stamp, the campaign manager of Albertan Conservative MP Peter Goldring, got caught prolifically posting anti-Canadian, pro-Western separatist messages on an arch-conservative Web forum called Free Dominion (freedominion.ca). Free Dominion, for what it's worth, is the Canadian sibling of Free Republic (freerepublic.com), one of the most xenophobic and reactionary American sites out there. Stamp was writing his missives under the pseudonym "Psycho," which did not improve the optics at all. The Tories wasted no time in securing his resignation. An entertaining coda gained less publicity. Goldring apparently tried distancing himself from Free Dominion, calling the forum's views "extreme." His disassociation from his employee's Web forum might have been believable, until bloggers ferreted out the fact that Goldring himself had given a gushing speech to a Free Dominion banquet in 2002. The transcript was right on Goldring's own Web site. Worst of all, the speech was awful. It made allegories about the dinner menu: "The perogies represent the Canadian Alliance members, the real people. . ." For the unexpurgated version, see http://bouquetsofgray.blogspot.com.

Aside from Vancover, most Canadians in the western half
of the country are in touch with reality and know we arent
the enemy. All the rest can go %$#@ themselves.
-----------
F%*# Canada!

Your blaming of all Canada (outside of a portion of the
Canadian West) is as stupid and ignorant as many of the Canadian
Hockey fans in Vancouver the other night.
Bash those who deserve it, but don't generalize the actions of
the relative few to the entire Canadian population.
Your attitude is part of the problem.
I wish all you aholes who indiscriminantly bash others would
just STFU.

That's kinda funny considering that YOU were the one complaing
about unwarranted bashing of Americans by Canadians.
My point was that you were doing the same and therefore no
better than the ignorant Canadian Hockey fans who took part
in the bashing.
How's that "crying like a little girl in france"?

That's the dude who produced "Flipper" back in the '60s ;-)

911 taught me who our friends are and who our enemies are. I would classify about 40% of Canada as our enemy. Prior to 911 I would have just said Canada is Lib/Socialist haven. I hope when we're done with the wall along the Mexican border we build one along your border.

I for one haven't forgotten the dozens of American aircraft allowed to land in the Maritimes on 9/11. Not to mention the hospitality shown to our people by the locals. And let's not forget the "Canadian Caper" which saved a dozen US diplomats from imprisonment in Teheran in 1979.

Ottawa and the Canadian media are the thorns in our side. Add Vancouver's and Toronto's whackjob liberals and there you are. The average person in Fredericton or Calgary is behind us more than you imagine.

Hey, go build your wall..
But, just out of curiousity, what is the wall between the U.S.
and Canada supposed to do???
I can understand the wall with Mexico, cause there's Mexican
illegals crossing into the U.S.
But there's no Canadians trying to sneak into the U.S.
Ask the Minutemen who sat on the U.S. Canada border several
months ago to catch illegals coming into the States. They gave
up after several weeks having only seen a deer crossing the border.
And I don't think you want to stop the $200 Billion worth
of U.S. good we buy from you guys nor stop the flow of the
2 million barrels of oil we ship to you each day or the
4 trillion cubic ft of natural gas we ship annually, etc, etc.
So, what's the wall supposed to do????

But you guys keep giving us such great material!

I do have sympathy for you. I live in California and see a lot of California bashing, too. But I admit we deserve it for allowing idiots like Feinstein, Boxer and Pellosi anywhere near a political office.

California also has a bigger economy and population than Canada.

So we always sort of chuckle when we see Canada pretend to be important.

Aww come on, you never read the Mope & Wail? Not even for a laugh?

I honestly haven't read the Snark & Wail for over 3 years.

When I want to laugh, I watch Team America.

:-)

I for one haven't forgotten the dozens of American aircraft
allowed to land in the Maritimes on 9/11

Actually 255 Aircraft with over 33,000 passengers were diverted to
15 different airport across Canada (many in liberal Eastern Canada)
on 9/11.
Many of the passengers were welcomed into Canadian homes and all
were welcomed and treated as friends and neighbours should.
I'm sure you guys would do the same for us...

Free Republic (freerepublic.com), one of the most xenophobic and reactionary American sites out there.

ONLY xenophobic and reactionary? Now THAT'S what you call lazy reporting!
Xenophobic...honestly. I prefer the term 'illegal guy hunter'.
