For instance, he just spent the last 8 to 10 minutes whining about how he is harrassed by lefties who come down on him in publications and elsewhere. He was totally involved in telling the little fawning girl caller how tough he was for not letting the "slings and arrows" sway him.

I've heard that type of thing from Sean also. If the topic can be applied to him it will. Even when he has a guest on, it seems like Sean will cut off the guest so he can make a point as it may pertain to him.

We all feel frustration with talk show hosts or politicians. It helps to remember that we are on the same side. I am frustrated by some of the predictability on Sean's show, and sometimes with Sean himself.

For example, the predictability of the guests. However, I also recognize that this is primarilty an entertainment business that lives and dies by ratings. Talk show hosts each have their schtick. Sometimes the schtick can get on your nerves...sometimes not.

I can understand your impatience, but the message does come out slowly. The messenger has to put forward his/ her message according to their own comfort level.

Sean's heart is in the right place. There are times that I want to reach into the radio and throttle Sean, but the man does yeoman work in furthering the conservative agenda. I give him megaprops for that.

Regardless, we are big enough and comfortable on this thread to agree and disagree with each other, but we do so in the spirit of friendship and respect and based on that, I'm pleased that you have chosen to join us.

sorry about the looonggg post, btw!

IIRC, this Chaplain was on some of the talk programs a few weeks ago and was making the same complaint.

Then on one talk show, his commanding officer was interviewed. The commander denied that there were restrictions on the Chaplain, etc.

There seems to be more going on than what the Chaplain is telling.

Not too many of us have much to say about Sean's subjects today.

Very nice post....

I figure that since I'm pinged to this thread....which I appreciate....then I owe the "pinger" of me the respect of not dissing the thread. I like Sean most of the time. At other times, I find him insufferable. So....instead of venting on here, I turn him off and occupy myself elsewhere.

I figure his loyal support of the military trumps any petty gripes that I may have with him.

Is this the guy who is on a Food Strike till the President signs an executive order saying he can pray in his own way?

Seems like there must be more to the story.

Isn't it just possible that maybe it may just be possible you don't choose an effective way to win him or us over?

I hope not......

If you really want to talk about this, could you be a little more specific with respect to "effective ways".

Seriously, sanctimony is a very ugly and off-putting trait in any human being. Sean, with his commercial lead-ins to the show ("solemn vow," "blood oath" nonsense), with his constant harping on how dedicated, honorable, and truthful he is to this and that, it's just plain disgusting in a kid, and whether you consider him a kid or not, he's a kid, intellectually and by the calendar.

Sanctimony would be almost tolerable............. perhaps in a great old, and intellectually brilliant philosopher or thinker such as the favorite person of my life's experience, the historian and philosopher Will Durant. (William F. Buckley plays a little of it with great charm.) Not that Mr. Durant ever acted in that manner, he did not, but (self) righteousness could only be tolerated in a great man (or woman).

But in reality, it is just a very unattractive trait nearly without fail. And Sean Hannity reeks self-righteousness and piousness, and it is off-putting.

And..... the most important and most destructive result of this trait of his is, that it invigorates the opponents on the left. They dislike him so very much more that they are willing to do very underhanded things to destroy him and the things that he cares for ........ such as G.W., and this administration's excellent efforts. Do you see what I am trying to say? God, I hope so!

By the way, I am a very poor typist, and my chronic back pain is killing me in this less-than-comfortable chair, so I'm sorry if I'm not saying this very well.

Really, simply all I'm trying to say is that Sean MUST knock off the sanctimoniousness in the near future. It's intolerable to many, many conservatives, and it's much more irritating to the other side. And as I said, and this is the important part again, the left's distaste (sometimes hatred) for him just makes them do devilish things to overcome his causes. We don't need that!

I hope that made some sense.

Sean is sincere, good-hearted and well-intentioned, and he is enthusiastic about what he believes. He does have a message to communicate and I want him to be successful doing it........... for the sake of this Republic.

re: saying he can pray in his own way?

I don't think it's a matter of him wanting to pray in his own way. He wants to pray in the manner the Bible says he should pray. Christians are instructed by the Bible to pray in the name of Jesus. It's not like he wants to ingest some psychoactive drug and pray, he simply expects to be permitted to pray as his religious beliefs require.

I was less than satisfied with Sean's handling of the interview. Can't really put my finger on it, but he just seemed condescending for the lack of a better word.

I don't see how in the world the military can instruct a Christian chaplain not to mention Christ when in uniform.

I think I heard what you were hearing. I thought Sean was outrightly hostile at times. It was as if Sean may know something about this matter that we do not know.

Anyhow, I liked the bit of confrontational "grilling" by Sean.

;-)

I agree with the fact that a Christian Minister should be able to mention Christ in his services, but I still just keep getting the feeling that there is more to the story.

Maybe it's just me.

See my post #49.

There is more to the Chaplain than the Chaplain is telling.

I heard an interview with his commander a few weeks ago. The commander contradicted many of the claims the Chaplain said -- such as his being restricted in his praying, invoking the name of Christ, etc.

The Chaplain isn't telling the complete story.
