Art Bell's beloved wife of fifteen years, Ramona, died unexpectedly last night after an asthma attack. At present, the exact cause of Mrs. Bell's death has not been determined. It apparently took place during her sleep.
Until her death, Art and Ramona Bell had not been apart a day since they were married. Mrs. Bell had suffered from asthma for years, and took her normal steps to control the attack, which occured sometime last night in Laughlin, Nevada where the Bells were taking a brief vacation. Ramona Bell was 47 years old.
Sad ping
How sad. You could just tell that he adored her.

Our deepest condolences to Art and his family.
Coast to Coast
The edge of reality doesn't do justice to Art Bell; but over the edge of reality would. Sorry to hear that his wife died, but maybe one of his guests can help him establish contact with her.
Oh my goodness. This is very sad. I just heard her with her mother a few nights ago.
Prayers up for Art.
Sad ping.
Never take your sweetheart for granted! 47 is just too young to go. Condolences to Mr. Bell. Very sad.
You're a sweetheart! After all you've recently been through, you still think of others. Bless you, oceanperch! you're still in my prayers, sweetie!
This is sad. He had already lost his second love, radio, and now his first.
I loved the insane guests, I could feel Art was mostly tongue-in-cheek with them. I remember him talking about the big wooden alien Rush Limbaugh sent him.
"..which occurred sometime last night in Laughlin, Nevada where the Bells were taking a brief vacation."
I was going to blame the cats, but I would imagine they stayed home.
You're a jerk.
I agree...
So sorry to hear of Ramona's death.
Prayers for Art and his family.
This toooootally sucks. They met at a radio station, when Ramona was still in the business and he was still married to his first (his first marriage was a shotgun wedding of sorts). I think Ramona was a station General Manager, or something. Apparently she was pretty wild about him, too.
The last 5 years has been quite bad to Art, actually. Some LV homo teacher raped his son some years back, and that teacher turned out to be HIV positive. What's more, the teacher KNEW of his HIV status at the time. I think that tests six months later proved Art's son did not end up contracting HIV, thankfully.
In spite of all that, Art did not go on to voice the kind of antipathy to homosexuals that I believe might be warranted, under the circumstances. I think this forbearance speaks to Art's good character.
What is more, at the time Art was dealing with this, there were some twisted shortwave radio fans who somehow latched onto the idea that Art was MOLESTING kids with absolutely no proof at all.
They were calling him up on his show and VOICING this stupid accusations --thank God for the tape delay. Still, the experience got to him, and I think he had arrived at a financial point that he didn't really have to put up with that kind of $hit.
So in summary:
1. His son got raped by a homo
2. He was the target of elaborate defamation of character
3. His beloved wife died
This is A LOT of bad stuff to put up with, and I feel sorry as hell for Art. I really like Art, and even if I, too, do not believe his show's material (like Art), I really like the guy.
I have never heard him wish ill on anyone --ever.
God gave Art a pretty special ability. I hope he never goes away. Even though he's rightfully crazy about his privacy, I feel like I KNOW him.
