It took Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) only a few hours to condemn Pat Robertsons disparaging remark about Ariel Sharon, but no such rebuke was directed at Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who made an even more despicable comment about Sharon.
Yet again, Pat Robertson has made a completely outrageous, insulting and inappropriate comment, Reid said in a statement sent to reporters at 8:24 p.m. Prime Minister Sharon is fighting for his life. He and his family deserve our thoughts and prayers, and I hope Mr. Robertson will offer them after he apologizes."
News about Robertsons remark broke late Thursday afternoon. On his radio program, The 700 Club, Robertson said: "The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, 'divide my land.' God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible, he says, 'This is my land.' And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he's going carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No. This is mine.'"
Hours later Ahmadinejad was reported saying, "Hopefully, the news that the criminal of Sabra and Chatilla has joined his ancestors is final."
I dont fault Reid for his criticism of Robertson, but to attack one prominent figure (who is prone to such tactless comments) and ignore another (who is arguably much more important in global affairs) proves Reids critics correct when they call him a political hack.
If Reid wants to take a stand on matters such as attacks on an ailing Ariel Sharon, the Democratic leader would do well to be consistent in his criticism.

Sounds like quite a few freepers.
Robertson said "may". Is he not entitled to his opinion? Right or wrong, it's just his opinion. Reid is only attacking him because he's a republican Christian.
The difference is Reid isn't on Pat's side...
ZING!!! I love it. Such demonrat hypocrisy.
Insulting the President of Iran doesn't score any political points for him. He wants everyone to think that Pat Robertson is saying what all Christians believe.
Yes, but attacking Aminejad would be risky for Harry (sticking his neck out, you see, and not multiculti), but bashing Robertson is popular with the base.

And we should be doing the same.
Harry should know...he makes completely outrageous, insulting and inappropriate comments every hour of the day.
Sure he is. But Robertson says goofy stuff like this every other week.
Everybody expects the Iranian tyrant to despise Sharon.
Yes it DOES.
True, but has anyone ever heard a democrat condemn Farrakhan for his bile? No. He is embraced by them because of his anti-semitism.
Yep, more grandstanding and hostility towards "dirty, greedy holy-rollers," but many Freepers don't need much of an excuse either to jump on the bandwagon whether it's Robertson, Jerry Falwell or even Joel Osteen's wife as witnessed last week.
NOBODY ever gives these people a break.
I wish Harry Reid would just shut up and disappear from public view.
Barney Frank refered to the religious right as the "Taliban wing of the republican party". They equate evangelicals with terrorists. And they wonder why they will continue to lose elections.
Reid is also reported today to have been highly critical of Republicans who took money from Jack Abramoff, but as for the $60k in donations he got from the same source, he refuses to return it because he claims he "did nothing wrong" - what a piece of work......
I wish the entire Democratic Party would just shut up and disappear from public view, ROTFLOL!
You got me beat on that one!
Sure he is. But Robertson says goofy stuff like this every other week.
How often do you listen to Pat Robertson???
