The Rev. Pat Robertson said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing the Land of Israel. Robertson, speaking on the 700 Club on Thursday, suggested Sharon, who is currently in an induced coma, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated by an Israeli extremist in 1995, were being treated with enmity by God for dividing Israel. He was dividing Gods land, Robertson said. And I would say, Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations or the United States of America. God says, This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.

I've looked for the exact quotation from Robertson before passing judgement. It doesn't show in the lead article. Have you seen it? Can you give me a link if you have?
Actually, I am pre-mil , and I think "God is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" takes priority over any notion that Israel must be unified.
To state that "Israel will be unified" is not the same as saying the "Israel must be unified in this generation." It could be a hundred years from now for all I know.

Does the Bible support his argument? I haven't seen a refutation of what he's saying. Just a bunch of whining from "offended" freepers. Yes, Pat is right. It's Scriptural. God warned against ANYONE dividing up HIS land. HE gave that land to the Jews and no one better divide it.

Actually, in that instance, Jesus did indeed make that statement. However, there are many other instances where individuals are either punished or receive the consequence of their sin - those who do not believe Christ will not inherit the kingdom - Jesus calls them blind guides; Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. Old testament - Sodom and Gomorrah, Noah, Pharoah, Belshazzar.
It may not be politically correct to say so, but there's ample evidence in human experience and in scripture that your deeds will find you out. Robertson (who is not someone I idolize, by the bye), may or may not be correct, and certainly gets no points for tact - but God is clearly not finished with Israel, the apple of His eye.

Yes, Pat Robertson is a complete fool. He'd really be doing us all a favor if he zipped it. I'm getting a little tired of these "Christian Leaders" who try to speak for us. Dobson, Robertson, Falwell. Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm not a biblical scholar by any stretch of the imagination nor am I an active Christian(the life I live, no, not likely at all), but I can't for the life of me understand what gets inside the heads of some supposed believers. Anyone who pretends to know the will of G-d needs help and lots of it. The bible only gives faint hints to His mind.
Mr. Robertson seems to be actively working to undermine the credibility of Christianity and Christians everywhere. He appears to either have lost his mind or his faith (if he ever had any) and is actively working for the enemy. The damage he does won't ever be repaired.
G-d help him.

Pat is saying Israel is being especially looked after by God, making sure a more Hawkish Israeli Prime Minister is put into power. You are right. That would be much different than a claim Sharon is being punished.
To: Zack Nguyen
This quote by Pat Robertson does not state that Sharon was struck with a stroke by God because he was seeking to divide Israel. Pat said that he believes God does not want the land divided. He did not say that Sharon was struck down because of it. Unless there is some other part of the quote that I am missing.Pat spoke the truth. God warned anyone about dividing up his land. It's in the Bible. IF people read the Bible, they would know what God expects out of all of us, and dividing Israel is NOT what anyone better do. That land was given to the Jews by God.

That is what you may call divine providence as opposed to divine retribution. God use providence to save us from a bad decision we have made unwittingly which can harm us.

yes, Sir Gawain, the bible does more than support this argument.
As much as I too think that Pat Robertson is getting (gone) senile this particular remark is based in scripture.
The bible does say that The Lord, God of Abraham, God of Israel will strike down anyone who lays a hand against Israel.
Its not just a bunch of "whining offended freepers". Whether you choose to believe that it was the work of the Lord as outlined in scripture or that it was because he was an elderly overweight man brought down by a common medical killer is between you and your maker.

What is "offensive" to me, are all of these so called "conservatives" here at FR who gleefully join in with all of OUR COMMON enemies, jumping on any and all "controversial" statements ol Pat makes.
Fact is that, NO MAN KNOWS the mind of GOD, that means Pat Robinson, that means YOU, that means ME.
You all act like a bunch of high school kids picking on the least popular kid in the school.
How about YOU all just STFU? (Oh yeah it's a "conservative" tradition to eat our own).
Oh WAIT! Pat Robinson does NOT know the mind of GOD, but YOU do?
Uh yeah, sure.
You are all acting like a mob of frothing at the mouth LEFTIST Kool-Aide drinkers
Nomex on, flame away, (but it won't change anything).

I am at the wayback machine and looking at May 10, 2000 program for lifetoday and she is listed ut with the "Women Of Faith" group, and her testimony I referred to was before that....but I am not seeing it. I am fairly certain it was on that TV program

I have no idea if Pat is right or not....but pray tell, how would he know?
Sometimes I really have to wonder what goes through the mind, and out of the mouth's, of some people....Sometimes we are better served showing compassion and humility...

Then why didn't God strike down Menachem Begin when he gave conquered land back to Egypt, or Netanyahu when he gave over part of Hebron to the Arabs? Why didn't He strike down Moshe Dayan for giving over the Temple Mount to the Arabs in 1967? We don't really know what God is specifically doing or not doing in these situations, and neither does Crazy Pat.
