Pat Robertson: Sharon Punished for Dividing Israel

The Rev. Pat Robertson said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing the Land of Israel. Robertson, speaking on the “700 Club” on Thursday, suggested Sharon, who is currently in an induced coma, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated by an Israeli extremist in 1995, were being treated with enmity by God for dividing Israel. “He was dividing God’s land,” Robertson said. “And I would say, Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations or the United States of America. God says, This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.”

While I admit he may have gone overboard in stating it as fact that this was a judgement of God on Sharon for dividing Gods promised land to the Jews, he is absolutely 100% correct saying that it's not to be divided.

But are the borders established by mortal men in 1948 the same as the land promised by God?

I can't hazard an answer, but it makes interesting food for thought.

Or agreeing with Falwell that 9/11 was punishment to the American people for embracing gays or the ACLU or something (and later half-heartedly retracting it, saying he misheard what Falwell said). Now he is claiming that any natural disaster in Dover will be a result of the "rejection of God" via the recent ID fuss.

Pat, stick to Liberian gold mines, quackery faith healing, claiming to be a lawyer (bar exam? What bar exam?), and claiming the ability to stear hurricanes. Branching out to other nuttery is not going to help your image.

I hear ya, I mean, I lost my home in Katrina,,,,,what did I do???? and then in Feb of last year my mom had a sub-arachnoid hemmorhage (like Sharon) and suffered for 4 months and died, I guess she had something to do with the Gaza strip, which is shocking really, since I doubt that she could have found Isreal on a map. We keep losing stupid battles because of people like Robertson who pick stupid little fights. UGH!!!!

I don't know if Pat cited any verses that supposedly supported his conclusion.

However, I DO recall one of the Gospel stories where Jesus cured a man who had been blind since birth. In the story it is mentioned that many of the Jews had assumed that the man's parents had somehow sinned to cause him to be born blind. The story makes the point that the logic behind blaming a misfortune on someone's sins as being flawed.

Lol! I hate kool aid! I just don't donate money to televangelists anymore. I think it's much wiser to give to local churches or a well respected charity. I just can't see footing the bill for their high-on-the-hog lifestyles anymore.
