MR. CLEAN CAN COME IN & WIPE UP FLOOR OF CONGRESS (Repubs feel Curse of The Hyphenates)
NY POST ^ | January 5, 2006 | DEBORAH ORIN

Posted on 01/05/2006 8:14:44 AM PST by Liz

You can almost smell the fear in Washington that America's mood is racing toward "throw the bums out" — and a yearning for fresh, clean faces in politics.

The revolting Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal with millions shamelessly tossed around to promote Indian gaming is tainting everyone in Washington...49%of Americans now think Congress is corrupt.

It's bad news for lots of Republicans because it's the Republican red states that always have the greatest skepticism about big government and influence-peddling.

But it could also be bad news for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.). Tales of influence-peddling bring to mind Clinton-era scandals like fat-cat sleepovers in the Lincoln bedroom at the White House.

It's good news for Virginia Gov. Mark Warner (D) as a fresh face for 2008 and someone with few links to Washington. It could also be good news for Mr. Reformer, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who's pushing a bill to restrict lobbying.

Democrats would like to paint the Abramoff mess as a Republican scandal, but Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid got plenty of Abramoff-linked money.

But what the Abramoff mess will really do is raise questions about the way Congress operates, especially the practice of "earmarks," which has become institutionalized under Republican control.

The result is that federal agencies are forced to accept earmarks of big-bucks spending for programs they don't want, with contractors they don't favor, because a lawmaker stuck it into a bill in the dead of night. Republicans, as the party controlling Congress, get most earmarks, but Democrats get some, too.

That's why Dem leaders are reluctant to rap earmarks. Now reporters across America are going to start combing through campaign contributions across the board — not just from Indian tribes — and hunt down votes that look like quid pro quos.

It won't be pretty.

(Abramoff is) bad news for lots of Republicans because it's the Republican red states that always have the greatest skepticism about big government and influence-peddling.....the Abramoff mess will really do is raise questions about the way Congress operates, especially the practice of "earmarks," which has become institutionalized under Republican control. The result is that federal agencies are forced to accept earmarks of big-bucks spending for programs they don't want, with contractors they don't favor, because a lawmaker stuck it into a bill......

One would think the Repubs would have learned the lesson from corrupt Dems.

The Clinton years alone show the pitfalls of attaching a political party's fortunes to hyphenates. Hil and Bill fellated every hyphenate under the sun, handing out government monies (and pardons) that benefited self-serving hyphenates, at the expense of the rest of America.

Repubs stepped right into the hyphenate minefield set by Abramoff, and are now about to shoulder the losses.

The hyphenate leeches include nests of illegals, Christian-hating dictators; trust-fund snots, compassion and sensitivity-fakers, foundations and NPO's, and anti-American, anti-Bush agitators.

Once and for all: "Real Americans don't use hyphens."

Sadly, the media will focus on Abramoff to the exclusion of Hillary's little fund raising problems.

The Republican Party is a complete joke. Where are the spending cuts, Senator Frist and Speaker Hastert? You guys suck and because of your imcompetence, moonbeam Democrats will eventually regain control of Congress and really screw up this country.

The more I hear about this the worse it smells. I want to get rid of all of them who participated in this scam. I don't care if they are R's or D's.

What will be sad is that even if we do throw them out, we will probably be paying for their retirement, healthcare, etc....for the rest of their lives anyway, and their family. They have set themselves up as Kings and we just pay the bills.

See tag line.

I think the number of Americans who believe the Congress to be corrupt is much higher than 49%.

Spines for pols?

Not until the American public finds theirs, for it is they who have insisted on gov goodies, a law for every conceivable perceived injustice, protection from any form of discomfort in life.

It is they who vote according to the NYT editorial page, Oprah, and slanderous political ads.

And it is they who continue to show their laziness by voting for the same pol for 50 years straight, not running for office themselves, shallowly deriding good people who do run for their looks or manner of speaking, cynically pretending that every pol is corrupt to excuse the public from any responsibility.

In short, the American public on the whole are just not serious, logical, informed, or mature.

And our ever expanding gov, (which leads to special interests lobbying), proves it.

49%of Americans now think Congress is corrupt.

49% of Americans think the democrats run Congress, too. Every time they turn on the TV, there's a democrat trying to look important!

Nope. Sorry. This "scandal" will touch a few Republicans as well as democrats, and they'll all end up running for cover.

When the last democrat administration was caught taking money from the Communist Chinese, all they did to stop it was hold out long enough for all the culprits to escape back to their home land!

Good thing President Bush is there to see this little mess is actually cleaned up. Thank God for an honest president, aye?

I agree 100%. But we need to look at those who participated in ALL the scams, not just this one. This one is a good start, though. Based on the list I saw on FR yesterday, nearly all the Senators on both sides are tainted.

What about the money from Soros (funding just about anyone and anything on the left) and from the Chinese (Clintons & Kerry up to their armpits in Chinese dirty money)? Remember Gore with the Buddhist temple money?

There's the rub. The media pretty much gave Gore a pass with that illegal money because, well, he was Gore and a Democrat.

Just as the media is similarly ignoring Hillary's recent fund raising scandal.

Different rules for the dimwhits and Republicans.

I agree completely. But you know the MSM will not cover those you mentioned above. But I hope that FOX News will. I see it is FOX News's job to cover those that the other MSM will not, so the American people can see all the dirty laundry.

I just know there used to be a time in this country when the average Joe would not put up with this crap.

If you can stomach it, go to the Democratic National Committee web site----you'll see all the hyphenates listed there----waiting with their hands out.

That's why this "Mother of all scandals" won't amount to much. The democrats have just called attention to their own corruptions - again - and there's a new media in town. Already on this thread the democrat corruptions are floating to the top.
