I hope orange is their favorite color, because that's what they're going to be wearing for about twenty years.

Nah...my prediction...in an ironic twist, he will plead insanity and base it on the NSA psychologist's determination. They will lock him up in a nuthouse for a few years then let him go.

Shaffer, Anthony Allen, Lieutenant Colonel, Senior Operations Officer, DIA-DOD

Now, that's a surprise.

He is a member of a group formed in August 2004 called National Secuity Whistleblowers

Why am I not surprised that members of VIPS are on that list? Their names seem to creep into every manufactured scandal.

Bill Gertz--who I know--is the Official Designated Leakee of the Washington Times for intelligence affairs. He's like Con Coughlin of the London Daily Telegraph in that matter.

As for the leaker being a traitor: I won't make a judgement. I've been around Washington bureaucracy long enough to know that often something sleazy or stupid gets a classification put on it to CYA.

The whole motto of the Intel world is "confirm nothing, deny nothing".

Well then I suppose he can have an "accident".

This is in virtually every report about him. But something's missing, what is it? He reported a possible spy, and something DID pan out, two years later, when an informant is discovered 'possibly' selling secrets. What I don't get, is why did he feel it imperative to pursue his suspicions AGAIN.

"In 2001, Tice reported his suspicion that a co-worker at the Defense Intelligence Agency, where he worked, might be a Chinese spy. He continued to be concerned by the co-worker's suspicious behavior. Two years later, the FBI discovered that informant Katrina Leung was possibly selling secrets to China. At that point, Tice had transferred to the NSA. The Leung case prompted Tice to pursue his suspicions again in an email to security officials. That email triggered a series of retaliatory events by NSA that have led to Tice's firing."

Google Katrina Leung.

Here's the possibilities:

1) His story is 100% true in all details.
2) His story is true in most respects, but is embellished to enhance his "martyr/whistleblower" status.
3) His story has a germ of truth but has been wildly dramatized to enhance his status.
4) His story is complete B.S. and he is in fact a paranoid as diagnosed by the Gov'mint shrinks.

I think he should be taken seriously (i.e. not dismissed out of hand as some here would do) but also that he should not be taken without healthy skepticism (unlike the Bush Derangement Syndrome crowd who are swallowing his story hook, line and sinker).

It's quite possible he's a loon. It's also possible that he's been screwed--anyone who's worked in an office knows how that can work. It's most likely a combination of the two--he actually did think he saw a commie under a rock, but failed to effectively communicate that up the chain and instead became a problem rather than helping the situation.

I also don't think he knows jack about the current NSA Al-Qaida espionage kerfluffle, but (of course) have absolutely no way of knowing that for sure.

Exactly.

Can you say "concerted" or "orchestrated?"

I knew you could.

That's what I read on this thread.

Interesting, huh?

I wondered about that; can you claim whistleblower status AFTER you've "blown," so to speak?

He's a leaker but not the leaker in the current controversy because "he says he was not part of the intercept program which has been in the news."

Looks like this guy followed protocol for whistleblowing in the NSA, he did not get the results he wanted and took it to far and they labeled him a loon......it might not be fair or it might be, but this has nothing to do with the story at hand about the leaks of classified info.

If this guy now decides to talk about classified info to the public he just might find himself in the same boat as the leaker.

There are mechanisms for disclosing illegal activity as a whistle blower...

You make an outstanding point that needs to be emphasized, so I'll repeat your statement with emphasis ;-)

There are mechanisms for disclosing illegal activity as a whistle blower...

This "leaker" is not a whistleblower. He/she turned traitor for personal/political gain.

Take a look at this from macsmind.blogspot.com. Did Risen rely on this guy for one of his sources?

NSA - Cometh the leaker - and he's ......Nuts

According to what I can find out, this is the tip of the story. Tice was stalking this ex co-worker, harrassing her, obsessedly convinced she was a spy and generally causing a rukus around the office when there was absolutely no evidence of her being a Chinese spy. He then openned his own little investigation which is eluded to here:

"Tice, a 20-year veteran of the federal intelligence agencies, worked at DIA until 2002. He made his initial report about the suspected spy at DIA after noticing that a co-worker voiced sympathies for China, traveled extensively abroad and displayed affluence beyond her means."

Word is that his security clearance (because he was misusing information and looking with unauthorized peeks into the co-worker's background), was subsequently revoked - FOR CAUSE - or for those on the left - because he violated the terms of keeping a clearance.

He's beginning to sound like one of those guys who goes to the police station to "confess" to any and all crimes committed.

He's a serial leaker.

Tice has a LOT of psychiatric problems. Let the left embrace him however, and let's hold hearings.
