Bill O'Reilly and David Letterman Clash Over the War (Libnut Letterman Wigs Out on O'Reilly)

Letterman to O'Reilly: 'I'm Not Smart Enough' to Debate War --It didn't take long for fireworks to erupt last night when Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly guested on David Letterman's "CBS Late Show," with the late night host finally admitting he wasn't "smart enough" to engage in a debate over the Iraq war.

The verbal fisticuffs began when Letterman asked if O'Reilly had a good holiday.

O'Reilly responded: "I had a nice Winter Solstice," prompting a contentious exchange over whether Christmas traditions were indeed under attack.

But the confrontation really heated up when Letterman suggested, "Let's talk about your friends in the Bush administration. Things seem to be darker now than they might have been heretofore."

The comments prompted O'Reilly to launch into a point-by-point defense of the Iraq war, beginning with the argument that even if U.S. intelligence had "screwed-up" on weapons of mass destruction, "for everybody's protection, it's best for the world to have a democracy in that country functioning and friendly to the West." Letterman seemed to turn downright hostile, however, after O'Reilly defended U.S. soldiers and attacked Cindy Sheehan.

"The United States, particularly the military, is doing a noble thing - the soldiers and Marines are noble," the Fox host insisted. "They're not terrorists. And when people call them that, like Cindy Sheehan called the insurgents 'freedom fighters,' we don't like that. It is a vitally important time in American history and we should be very careful of what we say."

The comment prompted Letterman to admonish O'Reilly, "Then you should be very careful about what you say, also . . . I'm very concerned about people like yourself who don't have endless sympathy for a woman like Cindy Sheehan. Honest to Christ, honest to Christ."

The sometimes volatile Fox host let the personal attack slide and continued arguing his case.

A few moments later, Letterman threw in the towel, admitting: "I'm not smart enough to debate you point to point on this." The CBS star, however, couldn't resist tempering his concession with one last insult, telling O'Reilly in the next breath: "I have the feeling that about 60 percent of what you say is crap."

"'m very concerned about people like yourself who don't have endless sympathy for a woman like Cindy Sheehan. Honest to Christ, honest to Christ."

I'm very concerned for people like yourself, Dave, who do have endless sympathy for a woman who has emboldened our enemies and did untold harm to the cause Casey Sheenan died for. That's where my sympathies lie, with the PATRIOTIC parents who continue to support what their sons and daughters died for and for the men and women in uniform whose jobs are made more difficult by an enemy who only keeps fighting in Iraq, not because they think they can beat us militarily, but because people like Cindy Sheehan make them think they can beat us politically.

Why should we have the least sympathy for her when by her own words she bears no ill will to the people who killed her son? Obviously she couldn't care less about his death if she calls them "freedom fighters" and bears them no ill will. And what of this mental case calling New Orleans "occupied" Dave when the National Guard was sent in for hurricane relief? Sorry Dave, you can only use the corpse of a dead son to advance an extreme left wing agenda for so long before people begin to turn on you.

And wouldn't it be nice if one of these entertainment industry vermin like Letterman could use the name of Christ as something other than a curse word? I'm very concerned for people like yourself Dave who don't have endless sympathy for your Savior Jesus Christ and HIS DEATH and the pain it causes him to hear satanists like yourself using his name as a profanity.

Anyway, I think we as Freepers need to encourage everyone we know who watches late night TV to support Leno's show to boost Leno's ratings even further against Letterman's than they already are. We need to put this putz down in the Chrissy Matthews and Keith Olber-not-a-man bottom of the barrel ratings range.

Leno dislikes Bush as much as Letterman, or at least that's my take from his nightly monologues.

I think that the final comment is really telling. Letterman doesn't know, but feels that 60% of what BOR said was crap.

Whereas BOR knew his stuff.

So Letterman is about feeling and not knowing.

Sorry. I can't stomach Letterman at all and gave up watching Leno months ago after his non-stop snide jokes about anything related to Bush and his policies. I read at night now.

I turned on Letterman last night, just flipping through, and saw O'Reilly, so I stopped. I usually watch Jay Leno or Nightline.

But the exchange was heated between Letterman and O'Reilly and Letterman literally lit into O'Reilly and it was disgusting! I was ticked, and I'm glad this story came out today, I plan on writing the show and going off about the nasty way Letterman treated his guest. At one point, O'Reilly had to remind Letterman to respect his opinion, and he would respect his.

Letterman was an idiot, during the Christmas "attack" segment, when O'Reilly mentioned the incident in Memphis about the manger scene being re-arranged leaving out the baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Letterman scoffed that O'Reilly was making it up. That really ticked me off! He is SO arrogant! So let me go now and send a letter his way!

>So Letterman is about feeling and not knowing.<

It is this characteristic that defines liberalism. Try and notice how many times you see either the word 'seems' or 'appears' in MSM news articles. It is always about perception rather than fact.

I have sympathy for many people like Cindy Sheehan who lost their sons and daughters in service, but UNLIKE Cindy Sheehan, did not prostitute their child's memory as a platform for the anti-American, anti-Semitic, lunatic Left.

I agree that it's the core of new liberalism. But the use of seems or appears is the use of the passive voice to be able to inject personal biases or editorial commentary into the "news article"

He's just following in Johny's footsteps, Jay was pretty loose with the Clinton zingers as well. Like Carson before him, Jay will always razz whoever in in the white house regardless of their party.

The Stone Age Press has become nothing more than a giant Echo Chamber where all the reporters write for each other. The group think has become so predictable that if you read or hear one reporter you’ve herd them all. Where has all the original thought or creativity gone in an industry that is based on painting history with words? There are two main forces blowing through PravdABDNC that are stifling all diversity of thought. The first is the absolute bias towards the DNC and the other is the fear of going against their Establishment.

Is there any wonder that the Conservative writers continually have best sellers while liberals only have cellars. America is starved for writers they agree with, yet they are continually insulted by reporters who show nothing but contempt for them and their way of life. This is no way to expand your business or even keep the customers you already have. This Country is divided 52-48% Republican, yet the scribes of history are 90% Democrat. How can they report about a Conservative Country when they have no desire to understand it?

How has this Industry become so disenfranchised from it’s customer base? Simple really, the reporters write for each other and know that if they all agree then virtually nobody can be wrong. Take for example the election, even though GW had always polled the lead, the press hoped that Kerry would close at the end and take Florida. To predict otherwise would put you in the minority and if you were wrong you would have to explain why you went against the common group thought. If you were right then the group will just say that it was an upset and cover their error. Since everyone is in agreement there is no threat to lose face and maintain your expert status since you were all wrong together. If you are wrong by yourself you have more explaining to do.

This is how the Stoned Agers have maintained such catch phrases as Bush Lied, WMD, pre-emptive 18 month rushed into, go it alone coalition. This allows lies to be maintained with none of the established reporters willing to buck the tide even had they wanted. All of the awards and front page stories are given to the scribes who are the most established and those are the ones who do not take risks. Now all of the front page reporters are complete DNC spokesmen which leaves a vacuum of divergent thought. Everybody wants their little awards and will do what it takes to receive those awards. You sure won’t soon see Ann Coulter’s name on those little dust catchers.

The major drum & bugle we are going hear over the next couple years will be that Harpy clinton is an automatic for President. None of these ancients will go against the group-think since it will put them out on a limb along with the caster nation of their peers. Nobody will give an honest evaluation of her lack of warmth/humility or shrieking skills. Imagine her telling self deprivating humor? So we will hear nothing except what a great candidate/screecher she is. The fact is that she is a lousy candidate, a poor debater and sagging in the polls. She very may well lose her Senate seat in a “huge” upset. You read it here first and the Old York Times, have they endorsed yet; will make excuses.

The lack of diversity and creativity will be the death of these Dinosnores. With a sophisticated audience and a shortened attention span these old formulas no longer work. When most information was stored and researched in books, attention spans could tolerate boring one sided drivel. With the advent of 24 hour news and the internet we no longer have the time or patience to tolerate their droll.

What was once an industry supposedly filled with truth seekers is now a megaphone of the DNC. That and the lack of an original thought over the past 20 or so years and you have the Stone Age Press up to it’s nostrils in the tarpits of histoir. The literal bankruptcy of that industry would bring about a truly Free Press that not only has the political freedom but an intellectual freedom that has long been forgotten. It is not pretty to see these pretty boy reporters in their death shakes as they invent scandal after scandal in a transparent attempt to return to their glory. This phony arrogance is driving more and more customers away from their crumbling monopoly.

You can bet that the Buggy manufacturers had the same condescending smirks on their faces as the Model T splashed mud on their freshly polished shoes.
Enough braying.

Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
