US Internet Providers Host Islamic Jihad Websites

No way? Really? Who'd have imagined.

Sometimes I just have to check the date on a news story to make sure it's even the correct decade!

Israeli Defense Officials Say US Internet Providers Hosting Islamic Jihad Sites

Report by Hagay Huberman: "US Internet Providers Host Islamic Jihad Websites" Hatzofe Monday, January 2, 2006

The terrorist organization Islamic Jihad, which was responsible for most of the recent terrorist attacks, and which figures on the lists of terrorist organizations compiled by the United States and the EU, runs Internet sites that are hosted by US-based Internet service providers (ISPs). This was disclosed by Israeli intelligence sources.

Islamic Jihad's Internet site was forced to stop operating via US companies about three years ago, in February 2003. As a result, it relocated to Iran, which guaranteed the site's uninterrupted operation. But a check made by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center in December 2005, to update a previous check made in August 2004, found that the organization was running five leading Internet sites hosted by five ISPs. Two of these companies are based in the United States, and one each in Iran, Romania, and Malaysia.

For Islamic Jihad, these Internet sites are an important means of disseminating messages of hatred and terrorism, particularly in view of the limitations imposed on the organization's statements in the establishment media of the PA. The organization's websites vary in number, and almost daily sites close down to be replaced by new ones, especially as a result of pressure exerted on the ISPs. Sometimes the sites reopen under the same title, but hosted by other ISPs; in other cases, they open under new titles. Islamic Jihad is aware of this pressure on the ISPs, particularly on the US-based ones, and in order to overcome it the organization changes its ISPs, even though its hosting by US companies has not yet stopped.

The qudsnews.net site, which is hosted by an ISP in Los Angeles, is one of Islamic Jihad's official sites. It is relatively new, and includes breaking news, articles by leaders of the organization, images of suicide bombers, and incitement to terrorism. The site provides links to the organization's other sites and to its official organs. The site has a page entitled Al-Shuhada al-Ahaya (the Living Martyrs,) with images of the "martyrs" and encomiums for them.

This site recently posted an interview with Ziyad Abu-Nakhalah, the organization's deputy secretary general, in which he called for the establishment of a "resistance front" (that is, a united front of terrorist organizations,) which would "wage a new round of 'resistance' operations" -- meaning terrorist operations -- "in order to rout the enemy."

The shikaki.net Internet site is also an official Islamic Jihad site, dedicated to the memory of the organization's founder and leader, Fathi Shiqaqi, who met his death in Malta. The site includes documentation of Shiqaqi's activities and statements, and its content closely resembles that of Ramadan Abdallah Shallah's site. This site features mainly text. It too ceased operating in August 2004, but has recently reappeared, hosted by a US-based ISP.

Islamic Jihad's information bureau recently issued a statement reporting that its secretary general Ramadan Shallah's site had been closed down as part of what it called "a Zionist-US campaign." A check made by Israel's Military Intelligence found that the site had indeed stopped operating for a while at the time, but resumed operation with the assistance of a Romanian company that provides hosting services.

The check also pinpointed three names, which are described as "technical liaisons" working out of Beirut (Abdallah Ramadan, Kamal Abu-Id, and Muhammad Haydar.) It therefore could be -- though this still requires verification -- that Islamic Jihad, like HAMAS, is operating its Internet infrastructure from Beirut, under the guidance of its Damascus-based leadership.

Like HAMAS and other organizations, both Palestinian and international, Islamic Jihad makes extensive use of the Internet, even though its infrastructure of websites is much inferior to HAMAS' in content level, technical quality, and reach.

By means of these sites, the Damascus-based leadership transmits its political and public relations messages into the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. This is also a conduit for transmitting instructions to the movement's terrorist activists.

Good, makes it easier to subpoena and for the NSA to secretly "spy on."

AO-hell allows plenty of bizarre islammy chatrooms but woe to anyone who decides to have a Christian room. They also will not allow anyone to create a member room with "FOXNEWS" in the title. commienewsnetwork has all the freedom to create rooms by the thousands.

I hope to GOD the feds are monitoring the chats at AOhell. Plenty of libnuts infest the rooms and the message boards too.

Do they ever! I dumped that useless AIM program a long time ago. It was LOADED with spyware, and I rarely used it. AIM is also violently leftwing. Just like AOL. I'm stuck with it for now but considering moving to another ISP.

I had to use their insta messenger for about 2 weeks. I was very reluctant to downloading it. Now I even regret it more since I knew better doing it.

I needed to take a brillo pad to my whole system.

I find it irritating in the extreme that ISPs in the US are vaguely referenced, but never identified. Why is that?
Fear of accusing an ISP of harboring killers after they have been booted? Why is that a problem?

Personally, I would love to identify all American ISPs which seem habitually unable to determine which clients are terrorist affiliated...
