Burned boy dies untreated; mother, grandmother charged in death

A mother and grandmother face homicide charges in the death of a 3-year-old boy who was dipped in scalding water as punishment on Christmas Day and suffered at home for a week until dying on New Year's Day, Broward Sheriff's investigators said Monday.

Valerie Kennedy, 30, had lost custody of toddler Jaquez Mason and his seven siblings because of abuse. She was not supposed to have contact with them.

Her mother, Annie Williams, who was raising five of the children, violated a court order when she allowed Kennedy to have Jaquez for a Christmas visit, investigators said.

Within hours, Kennedy had dunked her young son in a tub of scalding water as punishment.

Despite second- and third-degree burns over half the child's body, Jaquez's grandmother picked him up from the mother's Coral Springs apartment that evening and took him home to Deerfield Beach. She did little to ease the boy's suffering, investigators say. Williams did not call paramedics until New Year's Day, when the boy lost consciousness.

What is freaking wrong with people? I can understand getting frustrated with your kids, BUT what kind-of monster sees her kid for a couple of hours and can't cope? And who could deliberately do something so cruel?

This kind of story just breaks my heart. :*(
Makes me yearn for the 'eye for an eye' days of the old west!!
That precious child didn't have a chance!

God holds that little one in His arms now. May these two women be put away for a very, VERY long time...from the pictures in the article of them, the grandmother looks druggy, and the daughter has dead eyes, like a shark. No soul.

And does this on Christmas day. I say we boil the mother and grandmother alive as punishment.

My burning rhetorical question:

WHY does the state give custody of grandchildren to the grandparents who screwed up so badly with their own spawn?

And before I get flamed, I'm not saying this is always the case. There ARE exceptions.

Kill a baby three months before birth; kill a child three years after birth. Not much difference...that's where society is heading.

Seven kids? Good golly. And we are probably footing the bill for this. Look at the mom and tell me what copulated with her 21 months ago. She couldn't have looked any better then and she certainly could not have gotten by on personality.

Yup.

This story make me bloody ill. darwing and quartering would be good punishment for these heartless, cruel "adults".

Some people have extremely unreasonable expectations for kids. If I could guess I would think Valerie thought that a 3 year old should pick up after himself (no toys around) and should have the motor coordination of a 6 year old. When he did not preform up to expectation he was punished.

I wish there was some way of screening these kinds of people so they would not have kids, but I don't know of any way.

The ONLY silver lining is God's will give them justice that they deserve, we know what that is. Those two women already look lifeless. Maybe it won't take much.

SEVEN children at the age of 30? God bless that poor little soul who never had a chance. Neither of those women should ever lay eyes on the remaining children.

Florida definitely has the death penalty and it's carried out fairly frequently. These two deserve it but probably won't get it.

What in the world is wrong with so many people today? People are so cruel and uncaring. I can't understand it. In my area a woman with MS had her wheelchair stolen from her and the men laughed and taunted her while stealing it.

How can these people live with themselves?

Granny sounds like a monster too, not even to have taken the tot to a doctor. Extensive burns = extensive infection.
