Yet in Baghdad, the grandmother of the little baby with spina bifida walked up with great determination and placed the child into the hands of American soldiers. Iraqi's know perfectly well what Americans have done for them. (And can do.)

"...[but] at the political level it would make no difference."

Politics is always the fly in the ointment.

"Kill Like you Mean it"

I've never heard that one before -- I like it.

Who said a .308 can't reach out and touch someone?

It wasn't me.

I wonder if I could hit a large barn from 3/4 mile!

"On another wall are scrawled the words of Senator John McCain: "America is great not because of what she has done for herself but because of what she has done for others."

Hard to believe these guys would be quoting John McCain. I wonder if they know what McCain had to say about the Swift Boat Vets?

What a great story....those bursts of Bravado are good for the soul for men in combat. I remember the motto of: "Our business is killing, and business is good".. May all our brave young warriors soon be back in the bosom of a grateful nation....warmest regards for all and wishes for a great 2006.

I don't think I would want to work for Lt Col Robert Roggeman. He seems like the type to second guess his "god-like" snipers. Could be wrong, but his comments seem a bit defeatist and PC. Am I wrong?

bet all the springfield guys are not ok with it : ) (kidding and happy new year to all)

His exploits as a Marine Corps sniper in Vietnam are bigger than life and larger than myth. But for Gunnery Sergeant, Carlos Hathcock II, he looked at his tour as an opportunity, not for glory and celebrity, but for the fortuity of helping his brothers in the bush and saving as many lives as he could by eliminating as many of the enemy as possible. And he certainly did that. Whether all the legends and exploits are true is elementary. What matters is that Gunny Hathcock, long known as "White Feather" to his enemy, performed in the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps, for which we are more than grateful. http://www.geocities.com/hathcocktrophy/

Staff Sgt Gilliland, whose motto is "Move fast, shoot straight and leave the rest to the counsellors in 10 years" and signs off his e-mails with "silent souls make.308 holes".

Not to get too cynical here but that this SSG says this makes me wonder if we are implanting too many seeds of "self-doubt". I think there has been too many HollyWierd movies about vets going crazy when they get home.

I'm sure that the bad guys aren't worring about having "post traumatic shock syndrome" doing their job.

Nah, it was a great shot.

Still, I like the snipers using the .50 caliber Barrets. They really reach out and get ya. Take a look at this ad.
