PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
Hello homemom! It is so good to see you here. How are you?
It's not a true retrospective, and you're right. A lot happened. I just wanted to focus on some of the happy highlights of the year, plus add a few memories from years gone by.
You are so right, sigh. Tempest fugit.
Could you change the date in the title to 12/31/05? It reads 12/21/05 now.
Thanks and Happy New Year.
"Last toaster winner of 2005 what would you like on it?"
Woo-hoo! Most exciting thing that's happened to me today! Hhhmmm....I think I'd like a picture of President Bush and VP Cheney together, if you've got one. That would be wonderful! Thank you! :o)
Thank you, Grethcen. When you do that, it will only be 10:00pm here, so I will be sure to think of you when the hour turns.
Hello great to hear you only about 20 mins here till midnight
I have a few hundred LOL back in a mo with your toaster
It is sweet and touching. I love that photo. It's one of the several I came across that I did not see before.
Oh yeah. They will be missed when it is time for them to leave but...we're proud of them and will take someone really special to step in and fill Dubya's shoes.
The teacher was so impressed with the effort she had put into it. :) Evidently the others just wrote a report, she was the only one to do a poster with pictures. We used some we found on the internet, my husband took some at a festival and then we downloaded those you had posted.
It will be another 10 hours from me to you I believe!!
I think we're going to have to help him have a great year. The mid-term elections are coming up and the Dims will be in full cry for his scalp.
It is a shame you missed that dose on the day that photo was released it caused quite a lot of comments.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mike. Thanks and I wish you and yours the happiest year possible in 2006, as I do all Dosers and our beloved President.
Grin...very true. I probably should have also put up one with Beezie, but I thought Barney deserved center stage one more time. After all, it was he who volunteered to play with children on Halloween, and not the puppy. ;-)
Thanks, snugs. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Nicely stated, cubreporter. Happy New Year to you and yours.
The U.S. Capitol is a beautiful building. Add the inaugural pagentry, and it's just breathtaking.
I'm sure your simple, yet powerful wish is shared by most Americans. I doubt very seriously that the uger-partisans on both sides understand that.
Some White House photos are sort of buried on their website. Every now and again I come across some I've never seen before and am floored at how wonderful they are. Hidden gems.
Aazing Grace is being sung on BBC at the moment by our forces sweetheart I think Carol or Kathy Jenkins
