PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
Didn't ya just love those photos? The President looking so handsome and his First Lady looking like a Snow angel? Then our Handsome Vice President and his Lady beautiful in powder blue with her three little granddaughters all walking like little ladies and looking like the characters out of "Little Women." What a great President, Administration and Families we have in this White House today. They are a credit to our country and to all families far and wide. God bless and keep them all!
Hi, snugs. You and your dad had a difficult 2005. I hope with all my heart that 2006 is a brighter year for both of you.
I'm sure you're right, Gretchen. The Secret Service is great at what they do, but I'm sure the President still worries.
Thank you...you too! Thanks for our Saturday thread. Loved that picture of the president that had him sillhouetted against the fireworks. Beautiful!
Hello Wolfstar! Happy New Year. :) Thanks for the ping.
I have an alcolpop this year (rum and fizzy orange). Cheese and biscuits at the ready and about to get the Scottish Shortbread.
Inauguration Day last year was a very happy day for both families, but also for millions of Americans who voted for them both in 2000 and 2004.
Good evening Mike what are you doing for the New Year?
Happy New Year Kate hope 2006 is better for you than 2005
Watching the grand kids, they are on the way over now. We are having a New Years Party for them
Amen to that
That is so beautiful Dolly! Thanks for sharing it here!

Happy New Year right back to you, Right_in_Virgina. Crossing my fingers that your Sen. Allen wins reelection this year.

I'm glad you enjoyed them. Even I had never seen the one of GHWB and Babe Ruth before. I didn't know they had met.
God's blessings to all my FReeper friends in 2006! Thanks for your friendship, information, and laughs in 2005.
:-)
Great news look forward to the photo
