PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
Thank you and Happy New Year
Thank you and Happy New Year to you
Speaking of Christmas leftovers, can you help me dispose of this?
Everything in my refrigerator tastes like ham :(
:)
My FIL was a very manipulative, mean, SOB. We are all, frankly, relieved that he didn't have an accident while driving and hurt someone else.
MIL and FIL have been handling the legal stuff very well--MIL has Power of Attorney. I think they're doing OK with the emotional aspect too; he always told them they would fail UNLESS they did "it" (whatever "it" was) HIS way. They're finding that the world does indeed continue to revolve without him directing every aspect.
I hope I do not sound cold saying this, but I have put up with his "stuff" for more years than anyone should have to.
:::thank you::: Jonny
A Happy, healthy, warm and huggy New Year to you, too!
A Happy, healthy, warm and huggy New Year is the best kind :) I wish the same for you, my friend.
I am getting mighty tired of people who are "not happy anymore," or who "feel there must be more to life." He will NEVER find happiness or more to life until he learns that he must never depend on other people to suppy it.
We were just talking about two of our neighbors (both female) who left their husbands for the same reason. And we were wondering what they're doing this New Year's Eve. Hopefully, they are beginning to learn that there's nothing more out there than what they left. Idiots!
I pray that's so for me.. and for you and all.
Let me try to cheer you up just a little --
I can't listen to "Stardust" without thinking of the episode of "The Flintstones" where Fred sang it. I was just a kid but realized I liked the song a lot - even Fred Flintstone couldn't ruin it! But that aspect of it always makes me laugh.
My husband went to early Mass with me. I am taking RCIA classes, but he is not, but I appreciated him going with me. We had the young priest, who is very conservative and even had the incense. Very nice.
From your previous posts about him I thought that there might well be a sense of relief
Sincere condolances to you, will keep you and your family in my prayers.
RE: The jerk . . . sometimes it is not worth your time to try to reason.
Prayers for your daughter, ((((((((Altura.))))))))
I"m so sorry to hear about your cousins! Were the deaths unexpected? It's always sad to hear of tragedy around Christmas.
Prayers for your daughter, may God bless and comfort her.
No I can't stand cold meat--just the thought of it makes my teeth hurt. I take the meat out of the fridge and microwave it for a few seconds so it's warm, then dip it in mustard or horseradish.
I like pickles. Vlasic is my favorite :)
IMHO the most perfect food in the world is MUSTARD!
***Everything in my refrigerator tastes like ham :( ***
Ah, dear boy, just toss it in the blender and make ham salad. I've been eating that all week on a variety of bread and crackers. Far better than the ham salad they sell any place. Your favorite pickles on the side. Yum.
Oh, by the way, I LOVE your new blue complexion. Tres chic!
