PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
Prayers sent.

Thank you; there was just no reason, except "you're wonderful (which she is) but I'm not happy anymore"
How cute! You're lucky. I so miss little kids at Christmas.

They look as if they are having fun God Bless them
Good evening Wolfstar, thanks for that poem... Kipling isn't too much of a favorite of mine, however that poem of his certainly IS! It makes me think of our GWB, fits him to a Tee.
Our new year's eve plans changed due to snowy, sleety weather so we'll be having dinner at the same friend's house tomorrow afternoon. It seems no one wanted to venture out tonight and I think that's wise.
Happy New Year and love to all ... I don't get to check in at The Dose as much as I'd like these days but it's a safe, wonderful place filled with good cyber-friends.
Special prayers for snugs and her dad in their sorrow at this time.
Finally, God bless our president, VP, their families and our marvelous military who all continue to keep us free and safe.
Thank you and Happy New Year to you to are you going to Midnight Mass tonight?
