PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
I have to leave for a short while. Will be back later.
That makes 2 of us.
Dear Mystery,
My NSA wiretaps have alerted me to the toasters on your homepage. Laura and I especially like this one:
Keep up the good work and Happy New Year!
Your pal, W.
:)
Oh dear another counsin sorry to hear that
Likewise and I wish you the best as well. I can't wait to put 2005 behind me.
I have a very good feeling about 2006 :)
I haven't been up to much of anything since I got home. Shopping, hanging out with my best friend...nothing exciting though. What have you been doing?
I saw Mystery's and Kitkat's posts today. Hm ... Kitkat is a good actress, pretending she didn't know where I was. She locked me outside again last night ("accidentally") and then claimed to be surprised when she found me this morning, shivering and blue.
So far my new year has not been happy :(

Sorry to hear that. Prayers and condolences.
Thanks for the thread and thank God for the Angel in the Whirlwind. That's one of the quotes I'll always remember.
I am doing OK thanks Jonny - good to see you this evening - not out celebrating?
Nope. I thought the party was here :)
I hope our wonderful First Couple are relaxed and smiling tonight, and I bet they are.
I'm sure they're surrounded by loving family and friends and NO mediacreeps are in sight .. whattarelief it must be to just be "home.":
Way back in 2001, Billie posted her sweet drawing of Laura

Remember when Laura took over as speaker at that press roast event? Here's a blurb on her lovely necklace:
"Laura Bush's New Look"
Laura Bush Wearing Crystal Necklace -
The Washington Post shares the scoop on First Lady Laura Bush's new look, which she unveiled last Saturday night at the annual White House Correspondent's Association Dinner. She also unveiled her substantial talents as a comedian, as she gently poked fun at her husband, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Mrs. Bush fired her old hairdresser and has moved to Toka Salon of Georgetown. Owner Nuri Yurt does both color and cut for Mrs. Bush now. Her hair has a softer look, with attractive highlights. But we have to admit that we were looking at her necklace, not her hair."
"Her crystal necklace and matching earrings were the handiwork of Georgetown jewelry designer Ann Hand, who created the set from different sizes of Swarovski crystals. She calls the necklace the Waterfall. And the price? "To tell you the truth, I can't remember," Hand said yesterday. "
Here's the Waterfall -- just gorgeous:
Ann Hand is the jeweler who made the infamous gold eagle pin sitting on a big pearl that HC and her cronies like M. Albright wear.

A few special ones for the Gals Who Dose (GWD)
(I always "see" his profile being on a coin someday .. it's so classic)

Thank you, Pres. Bush, for ALL you've done and are doing to bring honor and dignity to the Presidency and for being relentless in keeping US safe. God Bless You and Yours!

Thank you SO much -- Rintense, Snugs, GretchenM, Wolfstar, Mike, and OhioWF -- for bringing us "A Day in the Life of Pres. George W. Bush" every day, and sending all Dosers my best wishes for a healthy, safe and wonderfully
He's not bad now if you're into that age group! :)
It's somehow even sadder when deaths and bad things happen around Christmas.
Anyone who wants to can pray for my daughter. The day after Christmas, her devoted husband of nine years decided he didn't want to be married any more. She's in major shock and sorrow and depression right now.
That is one adorable angel.
