PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
Emily! Hi. You're welcome and happy, happy new year to you and yours, also.
Happy New Year, Wolfstar and everyone. Thank you for your devotion to this thread...a daily dose of sanity for so many of us.
May you all be blessed in the New Year.
Same to you, homemom. FR is my internet home, even when I come across the occasional jerk as happened earlier this week on a different thread.
Ooops. Thanks exit82. I didn't notice the typo when putting up the thread. Thanks to you Admin Moderator for all you do during the year keeping FR a great place to be for us. Happy New Year to you both.
Wolfie
Hi Emily--
I'm good, thanks. Thinking back on 2005 and looking forward to 2006, trying to determine what God wants me to do.
How has your family been? Staying healthy?
My FIL fell Dec. 11th and has a severe head injury. He was in ICU for 2 1/2 weeks and now is in a rehab hosp. Things are up in the air as to when/if he will come home. HIs behavior was so terrible before his fall, he needs psych treatment as well. He's still confused, but I'm sure it will get "interesting" as time goes on . . .
To all the faithful guardians of Sanity Island - thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this wonderful haven every day - and to all my FReeper FRiends wherever you are. All the best you and your families for 2006 from me and mine!
Happy New Year snugs!
So you think the mid-term elections will go well? I'm hoping that people will realize that the dims are lunatics and vote Republican but I can never tell. People are so fickle.
Indeed, they sure will. Unfortunately, filling his shoes will be very, very tough to do. Sigh. But we do have three more years of Dubya.
Happy New Year to you too did you see my earlier message to you I suppose it is 2nd now in Oz!!
Wow! Is the difference that many hours. I never calculated it. It is 4:06pm here as I type this.
Sorry to hear about you FIL how is your MIL and husband coping.
Much action on the fireworks front in your neighbourhood?? When it struck midnight here it was like bombs going off the fireworks were that loud!
its still the 1st here and we are going to have a busy afternoon as my sister and her family are coming over for lunch and a natter. But we will be staying indoors and it is soooo blinking hot outside today.
not quite as many then as I thought then. If you are 3 behind eastern then it only 8 behind us.
One of the three hymns I most love along with the Ave Maria and Battle Hymn of the Republic.
I have Willie Nelson's album "Stardust" playing right now, and he's singing "The September Song." I'm the type that gets melancholy on New Year's Eve. Willie's music is perfect for the occasion.
You're so welcome, Peach, and may I also say the same to my fellow Dose custodians. Thank you all for your dedication to this very worthwile endeavor (endeavour) called the Daily Dose.
Happy New Year, Peach.
Happy New Year, Snugs!!!!
We have a few fireworks going out outside but not a termendous amount.
It seems strange when you say it is so hot difficult for me to get my head around hot weather at New Year LOL.
Thanks for your kind words and Happy New Year to you and yours
