HILL SEEKS PROBE OF 9/11 LOAN OUTRAGES
NY Post ^ | Dec. 31, 2005 | By IAN BISHOP

December 31, 2005 -- WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday called on President Bush to launch an investigation into the Small Business Administration's outrageous bungling of a special loan program meant to help businesses hurt by 9/11. Clinton said she was "particularly incensed" that the SBA pushed lenders across the country to peddle 9/11 loans to a tanning salon in Las Vegas and a golf course in Texas "while many New York businesses struggled just to stay afloat."

She dispatched letters yesterday to Bush and to Sens. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) — the top two members of the Senate Small Business Committee — urging immediate action.

Clinton is pouncing on the damning results of an internal investigation by the SBA's inspector general. The probe came after The Post's stories exposing how dozens of Dunkin' Donut shops around the country got loans totaling more than $20 million under the program.

The Post reports this week have also highlighted how a candy store in Illinois and janitorial service in Colorado secured big loans, while New York City businesses — like Steamers Landing, just blocks from Ground Zero — were turned down by the SBA.

The investigators found that as many as 85 percent of the businesses that got the special STAR loans failed to prove they were harmed by the attacks — and many actually experienced soaring sales immediately after the attacks.

Clinton wrote to Bush that "it is troubling to know that many other businesses with questionable qualifications in parts of the country far removed from New York" received loans, while those near Ground Zero "may have been dissuaded from even applying."

She told her Senate colleagues that oversight hearings are needed to understand "how the program not only failed to adequately oversee ...

Oh no, not particularly incensed! Is that greater than deeply saddened?

That Hillary, she really jumps on the critical issues--the ones critical to her. This one's a winner for her, no matter what happens. This will be a campaing clip for her: Taking care of her constituency, looking out for the little guy. {{{barf}}}

Can anyone imagine what a State of the Union Address by this witch would be like?

Television screens (at least those of us with CRT's) would be popping all accross the world with the sound of her screeching.

Where was she when all this crap was happening?

Nobody called her office for help and got to talk to the hand?

I bet she is pushing HER failure to help NY citizens on Bush.

After some initial blundering, Hillary is now carefully picking her issues. This is a safe one. She can't lose. It looks good. It makes the Bush administration look bad. Don't underestimate her, ever.

Hillary's looking for one thing in this episode: MONEY.

She's looking in the wrong direction. Look at the banks. They're submitting the paperwork.

Bet there's DEMS in them ol' vaults.

She already did that......months ago....saying the number of New York jobs haven't increased because of "Bush Poilicies".

Hillary cowardly refuses to allow open interviews of any kind. She is always protected by handlers.

I can hear the chant; "B-B, B-B" over and over again! Or perhaps in Hillary's case, the chant would be 'B-S, B-S' (hmm, somehow Big Sister doesn't come out right in a chant.... or perhaps it does!)

Yes but, this is a great issue for the Senator from New York and not the POTUS. May she enjoy a long and successful career as the Senator from New York.

Hillary would do to the USA what Carly Fiorina did to HP, drive it into the ground.

Thos does sound like an important issue that should be investigated. But that assessment is based on this article, which is based upon careful triangulation by the hildabeast. It does seem wrong that local, struggling businesses didn't get the 9/11 loans but successful out of state ones did. What is hilary hiding?

Hillary is so transparent--calculating and self-serving.
