SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Box Elder County officials issued an Amber Alert about 9 p.m. Friday after a pair of brothers were taken from their grandmother's home in Plymouth.
The children ages 7 and 12, disappeared sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. and are believed to be with their biological mother, who is not their legal guardian, Box Elder County sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Potter said.
Tessa Marie Morton has not had custody of the children since 2001, but was on a supervised visit with them, Potter said. Judy Cline, their grandmother and Tessa's mother, told police she last saw all three about 3:30 a.m., but when she awoke about 6 a.m., they were gone and her car was missing.
Cline called police immediately, but the Amber Alert was only issued after Cline and police tried to locate Morton by contacting friends and family, Potter said.
"The family thought this would resolve itself," Potter said.
Police are concerned the boys will not be adequately cared for because Morton reportedly suffers from schizophrenia and other mental disorders and has had some violent run-ins with family in the past, he said.
"We're worried that it could be unintentional because these children have some special needs," Potter said.
Police are looking for a tan-colored Ford Focus passenger car, with Utah license plate 719VMN. The 7-year-old boy is described as 4-feet 5-inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes, and his 12-year-old brother is 5-feet tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. They were last seen wearing pajamas, Potter said.
Anyone who may have seen the children or the car is asked to contact the Box Elder County Sheriff's office at (435)734-3800.

Sounds like a potentially tragic situation. Prayers and pings, please.
Sounds suspiciously like grandma had something to do with it. If not, then she certainly wasn't able to properly supervise the visit while asleep.
Prayers for the kids safe return.
Prayers for the children that they may be found safe and sound.
I don't know this situation, but I will tell you I know a family that went through this. In her case she would have been just fine with her kids. The social workers made every effort to destroy the family. In her case, she had a problem caused by a bad med (prescribed). It took her years of normality to prove she could be around her children. Drug addicts were allowed to see their kids before she could.
The fact that this woman snapped and took the kids is not good though. My friend had to kiss butt for years. In the meantime, the kids were ruined by the liberal system in control of them.
Even the husband was permitted no control over the kids. If he defied the oldest child in any way, down to where to go on family outings or what to eat for dinner, the manipulating kid would call the social worker - even down to how the house was decorated for Christmas! The sword of Damocles was that the state would permanently take all their children. The SW forced him to buy the boy a cell phone so he could call any time, any day. Power like that isn't good for any child. And these were good parents.
Not saying that is what happened here, but I have seen another side.
It's like that with everything in government.
I am no expert in mental health, except for my own bouts with depression, but schizophrenia is a very dangerous disease. I understand can be treated but only rarely is the patient able to live a normal life and sometimes the very medications used to treat it can actually make it worse.
I previously worked as an accountant at a private social work agency and some of our clients were schizophrenics. One client in particular made me very uneasy when hed come to the office for therapy and pick up his allowance. He was very unstable and unpredictable. He hated women and had violent tendencies. His family was very wealthy and tried to provide for him as best they could. He was only supposed to get his spending money if he was in a group home and attending therapy. He preferred to live homeless on the street and was obviously manipulating his family and therapists.
One time he showed up to get his allowance and threatened me when I refused to give him more than the agreed amount. There was no social worker in the office at the time and after that I insisted that no clients should be allowed to come to me for their allowance unless there was a social worker or therapist present. Then there was the time that an eight year old locked herself in my office and threatened to stab me with a pair of scissors but thats another story. Needless to say I found other employment as damn it Jim, Im accountant not a doctor.
I sure hope these kids are found safe.
Missing person ping.

Missing brothers found with mother
An Amber Alert issued Friday night for a pair of brothers reported missing from their grandmother's home in Plymouth was canceled late Saturday morning when the boys were found unharmed with their biological mother.
The children, ages 7 and 12, disappeared sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday, and were found near Ivins in Southern Utah after police, acting on a tip, stopped their mother's car. The mother, Tessa Marie Morton, has not had custody of the children since 2001, but was on a supervised visit with them when they disappeared, said Box Elder County sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Potter. Judy Cline, their grandmother and Tessa's mother, told police she last saw all three about 3:30 a.m., but when she awoke about 6 a.m. Friday, they were gone and her car was missing.
Cline called police immediately, but the Amber Alert was only issued after Cline and police tried to locate Morton by contacting friends and family, Potter said. ''The family thought this would resolve itself,'' Potter said. Morton has a history of mental illness and had some violent run-ins with family in the past, he said. An Amber Alert is an emergency notice to the general public that a confirmed child abduction has taken place.
Thanks so much for the update of a happy ending.
Great news to start the year off with! Thanks very much for the update.
I wonder how far away Ivins, Utah was from their grandmother's home.
