There will be a special election later in the spring, presumably, to fill this traditional Democrat seat in the LA legislature. This area oddly usually otherwise votes Republican but has long retained Representative Wright. Apparently, Wright will collect no retirement benefits.

Can the GOP grab this seat?

It seems to me that's what got this Rep in trouble in the first place.

I don't know if there is a Republican candidate available. Perhaps Sandifer is Republican, but I don't know.

This guy barely won in the runoff in November 2003 . . . by about 3.7% over his Republican challanger, Tony k. Owens.

Wright then may have lost in 2003 had not Bobby Jindal been such a weak candidate in northern LA. Jindal was about the first contested Republican to lose LaSalle Parish in thirty years. Even Dave Treen won LaSalle Parish when he was creamed statewide in 1983 by EWE.

What do you know about Tony K. Owens? Where is he from? Would he run again?

I don't know anything about him except that he signed a recall petition of Wright.
According to this website, he and others are running for this seat.
Campaign Report
To: LdSentinal
The only Democrat mentioned Floyd W. Smith, Jr., a Winnfield native, will be 75 in 2006. He is a former Democrat mayor of Pineville, LA. He has lost many elections over the years. So this seat should turn Republican based on the current list of candidates.
