2006 economy looks solid
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | Thursday, 12/29/05 | By Mark Trumbull

A fifth straight year of economic expansion in 2006 promises to mean new jobs, higher pay, and maybe even fatter investment portfolios for millions of Americans. Despite a backdrop of challenges - notably signs of climate change in the nation's sizzling real estate market and investor jitters over bond rates - this forecast represents a strong consensus among economists.

There's no guarantee that the economy will actually match current expectations of 3.4 percent growth next year. But of more than 50 business economists surveyed by Blue Chip Economic Indicators, all but five see growth of 3 percent or higher. The lowest forecast is 2.6 percent. The upshot for those who work, shop, and invest would be a solid but not exciting environment.

"I think we'll see decent income growth and decent job growth," says Nariman Behravesh, chief economist at Global Insight in Lexington, Mass. "The average household will be better off, but moderately."

Doesn't matter - whenever the economy is good under a (R) president, the media will focus on those "left behind" by the "greed of American capitalism."

Right, left behind, because of: Failure to properly train for a job, failure to listen in school, failure to finish school, failure to use protective sexual devices thus causing birth of unwanted and unneeded out of wedlock children, drug and alcohol abuse, just being a total deadbeat, homeless because of all of these. So, the reason they are left behind to me is, a self-inflicted wound.

It all depends on what the Federal Reserve wants to do.

One can use the informal "Willie-Meter" (posting history for any given period of time) to gauge the economy.

Rule of thumb: The fewer the threads, the better the economy.

Wow, counting the Gray Lady story that briefly appeared on the Yahoo home page this morning, that makes two real news stories in one day from them. The "UN says Iraqi elections were credible" makes three newsworthy Yahoo home page stories in two days. That's gotta be some sort of record.

Hey!! Why are you posting this news from the CSM which must be Excerpted?

Surely this wonderful news is on the frontpage of every MSM paper that you could have easily found and posted the full story from any one of those numerous sources.

3% a year. That would double the size of our economy in 24 years. I hope we have a full space colony by then to hold everything.

Oh yeah, the NYT was all over this one. Just like they run 48 Font banner headlines every time there's good news under a GOP president.

Hey, those things aren't a person's fault - it's the white man keeping them down! Don't you know that Ronald Reagan secretly planted crack cocaine in bad neighborhoods because he "hated" black people?
