Cold weather that passed through Arizona prompted the spike, health officials say. They also say visitors seeking refuge from snow country or staying with family may have brought in viruses. Cases of strep throat, croup, common colds and bronchitis also are showing up, lengthening the line of patients waiting for care.
Like influenza, strep and other respiratory illnesses are fairly common in the winter.
Actually this is totally normal for this time of year. The area goes thru it every season and it's brought on by all the snowbirds [migrating white haired retiree's that move south every winter] from Canada & Minnesota bringing their crud with them.

There is also a nasty tracheo-laryngitius bouncing around the Chandler family (cough). With the high volume of dust and molds in the valley air, my asthma is kicking up, too (cough cough). Mrs. Chandler wanted me to go to urgent care Christmas Eve, but I knew I literaaly would not survive sitting in the waiting room for 12 hours (wheeze).
I'm much better now, but Mrs. Chandler is having a relapse. Daughter Elizabeth and grandson Joey are having a second round, too.

I don't get why there's so much hype going on about the flu. It goes around every year.

Coering the flu, it is easier than doing real investigative journalism.
Bah! I am here in Chandler and think I feel it kicking in myself.

I've had the flu. About 20 years ago. I've never been so sick in my life. I fought it for almost 10 days and still felt weak and tired for over a month after. Last year I came down with it again and took Tamiflu. Miracle of miracle drugs. I felt like myself in less than 3 days.

That's what I thought. I've got it here in Tucson, but I haven't run to the emergency room!

Sambucol...health food store...buy syrup w/out sugar. VERY IMPORTANT to start before flu has a foot hold. It's a virus killer.
