New NBC Drama Show Mocks Christianity Email NBC Chairman Bob Wright over NBC's latest show, "The Book of Daniel." NBC is touting the network's mid-season replacement series "The Book of Daniel" with language that implies it is a serious drama about Christian people and Christian faith. The main character is Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her mid-day martinis.
Webster regularly sees and talks with a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus. The Webster family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer, and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter.

does anyone ever wonder if wildmon is sometimes paid to kick up publicity for certain TV programs?
If not, he should be, because that's pretty much all that is accomplished when he does something like this.

Oh goody, a boycott to drive up ratings. The stations will love this.. Remember the Ellen coming out episode? She had decent ratings, but as soon as groups started boycotting when they learned she was 'coming out' their ratings spiked.
People who take part in the boycott are those who wouldn't normally watch the show anyway.. All most boycotts of media do is give a show more attention and help it survive longer. I have a feeling, if we just not watched and kept the show out of the headlines, it would die from lack of viewers.

Make it a drug-addicted Unitarian/Universalist "Minister" or a Reform "Rabbi" and I'll watch it.
Otherwise,I'll stick with the Discovery Channel and the History Channel.

Isn't this reality TV? Sorry, that wasn't nice.
I'm not defending this story line, but a basic element of drama is conflict (though they seemingly have gone overboard here). Can't we encourage the writers to direct the characters toward their redemption? That would be pretty neat and really what Christianity is all about. They could write all sorts of struggle and conflict into that.

"family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son"
A liberal's stereotypical notion of a really "edgy"
character.
Start a rumor that it's really a 23-year-old homosexual
muslim son, and let CAIR go postal on them.

Can someone check the source of this? I have doubts about its legitimacy. Is this the beginning of an e-rumor?

with language that implies it is a serious drama about Christian people and Christian faith. Anyone who has followed media trends at any time over the past three decades would know better.

i saw nothing there about boycotting anything, only about protesting. it is time people stop belly aching about the garbage on t.v. and maybe say something about it. i don't own a t.v. for just that reason. reality is all around me, i sure don't need to watch it on t.v.

I clicked on your link but I also typed in Book of Daniel + tv show. There are several reviews which said this was an attack on Christianity again. Ellen Burstyn {sp} plays a Bishop on the show.

I need to do a little more checking myself. But the original post asked for information about the show and whether it was true. So I went to NBC's own site for the link I posted.
Have a great day!

I have watched the previews, and I doubt a boycott is really needed. To me, this is a show that would whither on the vine all by itself. Has the goof demanding the boycott ever heard of the saying, there is no such thing as bad publicity?

While I really sympathize with your outrage, this is precisely what the creators of this series want. This is a tried and true tactic that the Hollywood Left uses. Make something that is deliberately offensive to Christians and let their outrage be your marketing campaign for the show. The best action here is to ignore it and let it die from the inattention/lack of ratings; turn the other cheek, as it were.(...and no, I don't mean moon them, as tempting and satisfying as it may sound.) ;-)
To: ferri
How about boycotting by not watching the show? If few people watch the show, it will be cancelled. Instead, there must be some publicity seeking stunt. Christians should refuse to watch shows that offend them. All of this just increases the hype for the show and gives liberals and anti-Christians a persecution complex. Why give them the satisfaction?

You are shortsighted to boycott a show you wouldn't watch. Boycott the network for adding such partisan trash to their lineup.
They don't respect you. They don't respect your religion. They are unworthy of any respect from you.
Pull the plug.
