Dear Friends and Family,
Merry Christmas and Blessings from Baghdad. Thank you all for all the cards, emails and prayers. Well it's been almost a year now and I am really looking forward to coming home in a couple of weeks. Two out of the last three Christmas's away from home is enough for me. Hopefully this will be my last one as I am looking forward to retirement. The Army has been good for me, but it also has had its challenges. It's been very busy here with new soldiers coming in and getting ready to take things over from 3rd Infantry Division so we can come home. It has been a very rewarding and yet challenging year.
It really saddens me with all the attacks and persecuting of our President and our Military especially during a time of war. President Bush is the most honest, caring and God-fearing man we have had in the Presidency in a long, long time. I am deeply concerned and feel obligated to let my family and friends know how I feel about all this. We are not here in Iraq because of a lie. We are here because we volunteered to serve and defend our country and that is what we are doing. We all know that Saddam at least had WMD's and we all know he has used them in the past. Just because we haven't found any doesn't mean they aren't here. Soldiers are constantly finding and uncovering caches of weapons and munitions buried in the sand. We also know we gave Saddam ample time and warning to hide or move any that he may have had. We also know that with Saddam's hatred for America and his previous association with terrorists he wouldn't hesitate to use them again, against us. We all know he had the resources and the means to get them again and to get them into the hands of some very dangerous people.
President Bush addressing the nation and the world shortly after the 9-11 attacks said something to the affect of "Either you are for the terrorists or you are for us". Now it seems like a lot of our own people are not for us. These vicious attacks against President Bush and the military are not in support of our troops or our country. It is disheartening and demoralizing for our troops and it is encouraging and emboldening the terrorists. These attacks are the same tactics that our enemies have used for centuries. They want to deceive, distract, cause doubt, divide, and destroy. It seems that our biggest threat is no longer the terrorists but the lack of unity and support back home. If we lose this war (and we won't) it won't be because of the terrorists.
The ongoing deceptions and distractions from Washington and much of the press are getting everybody to focus on the negative and the problems instead of the goals and the missions at hand. Their hate for President Bush and his administration is evident and their and their lack of respect and support for our military is obvious. It is apparent that their wanting for him to fail is also wanting for us to fail. They are showing more compassion and support for the terrorists than for the soldiers and their families. It is distracting and causes a lot of our soldiers to become negative and lose focus, disrupting and jeopardizing missions and lives.
These attacks are just adding fuel to the fires of these terrorists and making them even more determined. These ongoing attacks in Washington and the press are solely meant for the disruption and destruction of President Bush and his administration with no regard for the security of our nation and the safety and welfare of our troops. Their sole purpose is to get our soldiers and our country to doubt our leaders and divide us through various distractions, deceptions, and cause doubt in our leadership. That's been the greatest ally these terrorists have had. Terrorism is real. Jihad is real and for us to pull out and come home prematurely would make them even more determined. They would just get organized, get what they need and eventually follow us home to do what they love to do, kill Americans and Jews. They will never stop hating Americans and the freedoms that we support and defend and even die for.
Please continue to pray for and support our President, his administration and our troops and their families. Please stay focused on the positive and the good things and don't get distracted by all these antics in Washington. There is a lot more good and positive things going on over here than what you will ever read or hear about in the news. For every one negative thing you read about or hear there are thousands of good things that aren't news worthy enough to report. It's too bad that it's mostly bad news that gets all the attention. I am very sorry for such a negative letter especially during Christmas when we should all be united in celebrating the birth of our Savior and Lord. I just felt I needed to let you all know how I felt about all this. I love you all, I love our country, and I love our Lord and Savior.
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that God continues to Bless each and every one of you and keep you all in His loving care and protection.
Forever "In Christ" and with His love,
George
I don't think this could have been said any better.
