AN Egyptian man discovered on his wedding day that his fiancee of three years was a man who had been concealing his identity behind a veil.

The 26-year-old groom-to-be, Tamer Shehata, was notified by a female guest attending his wedding that his would-be wife was a man in women's clothing.

When Mr Shehata confronted his fiancee, he broke down and revealed that he was actually an 18-year-old man called Ahmed Abo Zeid.

Mr Abo Zeid confessed that he had tried several times to undergo a sex change but had failed to secure doctors' approval.

Mr Abo Zeid, whose face was obscured to Mr Shehata by a niqab or burka (face veil) said he had intended to tell after they were married, and had hoped to convince Mr Shehata to consummate the marriage.

Mr Abo Zeid was held for 45 days on charges of swindling and posing as a woman.

My husband hit him with fish and threw him across the bar.

I know I shouldn't laugh....but I just can't help it. What is it with these people? They are so screwed up about the sexes. They seem so afraid of women it might be a good idea if they all married men. For them there'd be no problem with unclean women, and for our side there'd be no little weirdo babies, groomed to be terrorists, from these lovely couples.

Think the prophet (lard be upon him) looked under the 6 year old's hood before marriage?

Premarital sex would have solved this mystery.

Ever saw M. Butterfly? Apparently based on a true story--scratching my head since the "woman" in question had all his equipment and was not a hermaphrodite or anything like that. The duped man was even fooled to the extent of believing the he/she person had his baby.

Snipe, I forgive you for suggesting that I live in Massachusetts. Will you forgive my my misguided attempt at humorous sociological comment?

BTW, thanks for the link and Happy New Year.

I read this the first time it was posted.

It's not surprising, considering that some couples may not actually meet until the day of the wedding. Which is one reason the temp marriages are used as a way of dating.

I mean, you marry my daughter, you guys live in my house, get to know each other (but live in seperate quarters). If it doesn't work...fine...buh bye!

Sorry - didn't know you'd already seen it.

That kind of "dating" is difficult to imagine, really.

....Oh... that sounds like a REALLY bad idea!

My husband hit him with fish and threw him across the bar. I guess you had to be there!

If I'd been there, hopefully I'd know why your husband had a weapon-sized fish in a bar.

Okay, I understand now.

Good thing, because the mystery was going to nag at me for the rest of my life otherwise.

Oh no,
Don't apologize...sometimes I type things like I'm thinking them.

I just remembered the temp marriage when I saw the story again. That is also one of the reasons they have dancers at the weddings (I've been told). As well as entertainment and a show of wealth, they also give the guy something to think about if he got a dud.
