Bikini? No, burqini
Herald Sun ^ | 12/25/2005 | Sue Hewitt

ITSY-BITSY, teeny-weeny bikinis are common -- but now multicultural Australia has head-to-foot "burqinis".

Designer Aheda Zanetti calls the outfit an "Islamic bikini" because it has pants and a top.

She said the costume, marketed under the name Ahiida and available on the internet, covered everything except hands, feet and face.

She said it had a "hijood", named after the traditional hijab. Mother-of-four Adeeba Nabulsi said the outfit allowed her to swim with her children in mixed-sex public pools.

My only concern is how soon will we be hearing the call for all women to wear modest clothing

It seems like there are incidents of rape in France every day that use the reason western women dressed like whores. I believe that the root of the rioting in Australia center on Muslim attacks at the beach. It is going on all over.

So, IMHO the calls for all women to "Burka-Up" will begin being sent out by organizations like CAIR and other representatives of the "Religon-Of-Peace" (TM).

If it make you feel any better if they make these in white they can still have wet burkini contests.

"Yeah, my wife would look good in that ...... NOT. It's PAT"

Scroll down. There's a cute teen girl in one of these in a later post.

The point is, of course, that many Christians in this country don't like revealing bathing suits. Some might want your wife to wear something like these.

We can condemn Islam for many things. Condemning them for wanting modest clothing doesn't appear to me to be one of them. I believe you'll find an interesting verse in 1st Timothy that's applicable to Christians:

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in MODEST apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

These garments -- and burqas -- create a health risk, especially in countries with moderate sunlight. When skin is not exposed to the sun, vitamin D deficiency can result.

Actually, I do have a problem with the burka. It is a sartorial expression of fear and loathing of women.

It is perfectly rational to design bathing suits with a minimum of material when the intent is to swim in them. How well do think that swimmer in the burqini will do in the 100 meters? That suit is a drag in more ways than one.

Actually you may be on to something. The last time I went to the beach, I was amazed at how many people 40 lbs and over, overweight thought nothing of flaunting it all for the world to see in a skimpy bathing suit. All I could think was gad cover that mess up.

I don't see a problem with people wearing modest clothing.

I don't either, but you should at least be able to swim in it. 8-)

"The point is, of course, that many Christians in this country don't like revealing bathing suits."

Of course, the obvious and overwhelming difference is that Christians are not going to beat your wife (or stone her) for wearing something that offends them. In fact, you would be extremely hard pressed to find any Christian faith that requires women to wear anything in particular, nevermind body length bathing suits. Can you name one?

O.K. Cute teen girls aside and I have no interest BTW. My wife can and will wear anything she wants. If anyone wants to tell my wife how to dress they can take the g-string from my cold dead fingers.

Personally, I don't go to the beach, {I live in Florida} because the vast majority of girls wear almost nothing.

So I'm all for more modest bathing suits.

There seems to be a bit of a difference between Christians calling for modesty and the Islamic calling for modesty.

One you understand as a call for righteous living, the other reminds you for a call for Jihad.

It looks like she did have a little accident. The good thing about burkinis is you can't see the Depends under there;)

GAAAAAAAAAAAK! My home-schooled daughter would never be subjected to that. What do you want to do, make non-christains run for cover when you walk in the room? Is it about living in and with the world or separating from the world to the point that outreach can never happen? Is it about integration or sepratism. Sepratism is arrogance that does not even attempt to bring light into the world.

Sure, no problem. Mennonites and Amish. You aren't going to see any immodest swimming garb on any of their teens, I guarantee.

OTOH, at night, I'm sure those teens are skinny-dipping in the swimming hole, just like other kids, but that's another matter.

There's a huge difference between "modesty" and "requirement".

One is healthy and one is sick.

I understand the riots in Aussie were instigated by, I am assuming, Muslims youth, {The media never told us, surprise} that were treating the local gals as whores and sluts because of the way they dressed and acted. Hitting on them and touching them.

"What do you want to do, make non-christains run for cover when you walk in the room? "

Who, me? Read my tagline. I'm just pointing out that modest swimwear is available for those Christians who desire it.

In the USA, lots of Muslims wear the same swimwear as everyone else. Nobody's beating them, as far as I know. We don't have the Taliban here.

OTOH, there are Christian denominations in this country which demand swimwear like I have illustrated.
