(Vanity) FreeRepublic Folding@Home Project Update (We're in the Top 1,200!)

OK, new thread for the next week.

First, a big shout out to the SETI members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 104 processors and 76 users. We have a number of new users in the team, with Clara Lou, fzx12345, SamfromLivingston, brityank, manwiththehands and Tami all popping onto the hit list this week.

Malsua, uriah and Ken in Texas are solidly in the top 10. Malsua is continuing to add systems and now accounts for 10% of the FR total. Great job!

Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page

On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 1196. We are poised to overtake (today):

carletonu (maybe in MN?)
Helms-Deep
2*ian
Dynadues
Soluchis
Greece and soon the
University of Pennsylvania!

We were passed by one team, SISD. My guess is that this team really is the computers of an Independent School District that were all "volunteered" to fold over the holidays. They are producing points at a rate of 37,000 points per day. As we gain members from the 100,000 FReepers that visit JimRob's place I expect that we will have a much greater long term growth than them.

Type it in once, it'll stay until you change it.

yep, that's cool. As you can tell, I'm still somewhat a novice at using the forum software.

Wow, you really sent the whole team snowballing. LOL.

I see that my dinky Inspiron 800m (not even close to top of line) is performing better than my Xeons put together. Guess computers deprecate even faster than I thought :-( Ah, well, I'd been planning to spend any tax refund on building an AMD X2 system anyway (if I do have a refund). Been itching to do some game programming lately.

You can add a logo when you first register.

Maybe texas_booster can add it now (if he still remembers the login info)

Looks like we'll overtake Dean For America, Mensa, and Harvard pretty soon.

hmm... a lot of the top 1000 teams have a logo. Perhaps someone with access to the team profile page needs to go check the settings, and include a suitable image?

I'd vote for the "crying democratic baby" logo...

The status of servers seems normal.

Can you open the following links? (You should see an "OK")

O.K...I just downloaded the console client for Linux....What "team number" do I enter?

I'm still reading the install notes, so I might have it all figured out by the time you get back with me. :-) Thanks.

We just broke 1100... and still climbing.

hehehe... also observed, we have at least 10 team members,
who "individually", accounted for more points today, than the
whole DU team combined.

I guess they're too paranoid about the NSA to leave their 'puters running 24x7....

do ya think... if I sacrificed a 'puter, with a suitably irritating user name, should I use it to join their team, as a motivational tool? :)

Sager also provides the chassis units for Alienware and Voodoo Laptops, which are totally K***a**. A little garish for my tastes, but if you have one, it's hard to "miss" it in a crowd, especially the one in international orange.

Aw, man, don't give me pr0n links while I'm at work. LOL!! That's schweeeet and not a bad price for a laptop either. There's nothing like building your own box from scratch, though...

Saw your vanity btw. No idea you had such a personal motive... thank you for telling your story. Will bump it later tonight.

Put in a computer with the most outrageously right-wing name you can think of, like, RepublicanLoverBushAdmirer or something, and see if they notice. Then switch teams. :o)

(Be careful, btw... you don't want them to pull a NCPAC with your employer)
