You've probably heard about the UMass student who claimed that Department of Homeland Security agents visited him after he checked out Mao's Little Red Book from the library.
Well, he has now admitted that he made the story up.

Student admits he lied about Mao book
NEW BEDFORD -- The UMass Dartmouth student who claimed to have been visited by Homeland Security agents over his request for "The Little Red Book" by Mao Zedong has admitted to making up the entire story.
The 22-year-old student tearfully admitted he made the story up to his history professor, Dr. Brian Glyn Williams, and his parents, after being confronted with the inconsistencies in his account.
Had the student stuck to his original story, it might never have been proved false.
But on Thursday...the student added new details.
The agents had returned, the student said, just last night.
The two agents, the student, his parents and the student's uncle all signed confidentiality agreements, he claimed, to put an end to the matter.
But when Dr. Williams went to the student's home yesterday and relayed that part of the story to his parents, it was the first time they had heard it.
The story began to unravel, and the student, faced with the truth, broke down and cried.

The student's motivation remains a mystery, but in the interview on Thursday, he provided a glimpse.
"When I came back, like wow, there's this circus coming on."
"I saw my cell phone, and I see like, wow, I have something like 75 messages and like something like 87 missed calls," he said.
"Wow, I was popular."
I usually get one or probably two a week and that's about it, and I usually pick them up."
Mao Zedong is still dead.
I mean, how many of what are supposed to be "historians" these days, when handed a liberal's Holy Grail of a tale of right-wing government oppression, would actually go and CHECK IT OUT! (And debunk it in the process!)
I predict, there are no Bancroft Prizes in his future. But he will, I am sure, be able to sleep with his conscience and his professional integrity.
Pretty sad. It always seems to me that most, if not all, lies of this sort originate in someone's twisted (as in, sick, ill) egoism.
Many criminal acts are often motivated by a sickness of the human ego...shame it is, because the deceit is so obvious to most of us, as is the motivation.

The irony is lost on them that in the USA they are free to read the idiotic babblings of Chairman Mao or Fidel Castro (if you can stand it) but try checking out Life and Death in Shanghai in the Peking public library or Beyond All Hope in the Havana library.

What in the world is WRONG with Molly Ivins? Can she not read and understand the Constitution? She's like some old timey lunatic still railing on with genuine outrage but about nonsense. Her feelings of unjustice and betrayal would be more appropriate if focused on the Left, and, she should just go back to school, with the exception of leftwing universities. She could really stand to learn something new.

She's a Liberal.
It's as if she's experiencing some horrible drug induced dementia, or worse, inherently induced dementia.
All that euphamism and force in her words to "prove" and establish nonsense. Truly, demented work.
She's a lot further left than just a mere liberal. Red Molly sounds like just another liberal nut many times, but she never reveals that she is actually a socialist. Yes, I know many people on this forum think that liberals and socialists are the same, but they're not.
Liberals are people like Babs Streisand who are basically ignorant (and filthy rich) who believe in taxing people at high rates and smashing babies skulls at birth. Those are just a few of their nutty positions. However they love money and hate the hoi polloi. They don't want the system that has made them hundreds of millions of dollars eradicated. They just want you, the average taxpayer to shell out mightily for their screwball social policies.
Ivins is an out and out radical leftist who would like nothing less than the destruction of capitalism and the free market.
