BOSTON New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island were the only states to lose population from 2004 to 2005.
The U-S Census reports that New York lost 26-thousand residents, a tenth-of-a-percent decrease. Massachusetts also had a tenth-of-a-percent decline, losing 8-thousand. Rhode Island lost about 3-thousand, or three-tenths of a percent.
Experts attribute the trend to soaring housing costs, a stagnant job market and the arrival of fewer immigrants.
Most of the states with the largest population growth are in the South and West. Nevada, with an estimated population increase of 3-point-5 percent, was the fastest growing state for the 19th consecutive year, followed by Arizona, Idaho, Florida and Utah.
The nation's population increased by 2-point-8 (m) million, or point-9 percent, to 296 (m) million.

I fear enough dems will move to Red state to foul the purity.

I think that Limbaugh said yesterday that by the year 2020, Florida will have more electoral votes than New York. I didn't know that the exodus was that drastic.

How about the MASSIVE TAXES? These are the 3 highest taxed states in the union.

nothing that a few more undocumenteds couldn't fix...

Please fix the title to
N.Y. Thanks.
To: LdSentinal
Wow. New York isn't even big enough to have an "N" anymore.

yes, exactly. NY/MA/RI could reverse the trend by increasing taxes. Then, increasing bennies would attract more undocumenteds, thus increasing the population. makes perfect sense!

Will the last resident of Rhode Island please turn out the lights.

Only a tenth of a percent? Many idiots, so little time.

How about the MASSIVE TAXES? These are the 3 highest taxed states in the union. I bet those states will raise taxes even more to cover tax losses (from the exodus). More people will continue to leave and they'll still be wondering why.

At this rate Florida looks like it will pass New York by 2010.

New York and Ohio are in a competition to repopulate Florida. 250 people a day leave those states (each) to move to Florida.

it's all about the taxes. Yet, these figures are flawed for NY, IMO. The undocumented Dominicans in the NYC area alone would put NY in positive territory.

And this tiny place will always have 2 liberal senators.

I live in Massachusetts and have been hunting Liberals and filling up the landfills with them. That must be what has skewed the census.
I'll have to be more careful.

But sadly, many of the emigres from NY and MA are moving into my area of central FL, altering the political landscape as their numbers increase.
This is not, in my view, an improvement. It is already showing up in the increased willingness to vote in unnecessary tax increases for the most specious of reasons. At current rates of growth, I give this area about five years. I will be gone before then.

In a REAL state, Rhode Island would be a county. No offense to Rhode Islanders!
