Wife of Joel Osteen Asked to Leave Plane

HOUSTON — The wife of the pastor of the nation's largest church was asked to leave a plane after she failed to comply with a flight attendant's instructions, the FBI said Tuesday.

Houston Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen, his wife, Victoria, and their two children boarded a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Vail, Colo., Monday. The plane's door had been closed when Victoria Osteen and a flight attendant had a disagreement.

"She failed to comply with the flight attendant's instructions, and they were asked to leave the flight," FBI spokeswoman Luz Garcia said without elaborating on the disagreement.

The FBI reviewed a report from Continental after the incident, Garcia said. No charges will be filed, she said.

The flight was delayed more than an hour while the Osteens' luggage was retrieved, Garcia said. The family took another flight to Colorado, where church spokesman Don Iloff said they were skiing Tuesday.

Iloff called the disagreement with the flight attendant "minor" but would not say what happened.

"In semantics, they might have been asked to be removed," he said. "Really, it was more of a mutual thing."

Continental spokeswoman Julie King would not discuss the disagreement but said in a statement that the situation was resolved.

Osteen's sermons are broadcast across the country and his book "Your Best Life Now" has become a best seller. His church has more than 30,000 worshippers weekly and meets in a renovated arena where the Houston Rockets once played.

He...who gives to the rich, will only come to poverty. Proverbs 22:16

That's something you won't hear from anyone on TBN.

"Why are the pretty ones always nuts?"

From the inconsistent versions of the stories, I can't see how anyone can come to a conclusion.

There are abusive passengers, but a very frequent flier, I have seen some seriously rude and abusive flight attendents.

Interesting link. I wonder if it is a better deal to give $2,500 to "Sponsor-A-Seat" or $2,500 to be on the "Wall of Champions"? ;)

They can afford thier own plane, but they choose to fly commercial (at least till now), which is less wastefull than a private jet. At least she's not a "Gulfstream Liberal".

If you can find fault with giving up a chuch salary made of donations, you'll find fault with anything!

I'm not finding fault with giving up a church salary. I'm finding fault with giving the impression that this is somehow a sacrifice or a nobel thing. It's not.

Would it bother you to know that on national TV Osteen publically denied that Christ is the way, the truth and the light?

Yes, that would bother me.

One, I don't know that he's a Jim Baker clone.

Two, I find all this sniping by people to be off-putting. He apparently has a successful ministry that fills a sports arena every week.

The actual incident that has spawned all these threads is likely the fault of the fight attendant. I've traveled enough to know that some of these attendants can turn into petty tyrants rather easily.

The fact that he's done well for himself and his family doesn't bother me in the least. I'm not familiar with the biblical teachings that ministers and Christians in general are supposed to take a vow of poverty.

Many posters here appear to be either envious of him and his ministry's success or they are bothered by the fact that Osteen is not a "hell and damnation" type of orator. Many of the complainers here don't seem very "Christian" because of it, IMHO.

I don't know if Osteen is a Christian or not. But I do know he is not preaching the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Feeling good about yourself is not the point of the Gospel. The Gospel is about Salvation. If you confuse Salvation with Fire and Brimstone you are sadly wrong.

What he is preaching can be found on Oprah, or in the self help section of any secular bookstore in America.

To paraphrase Spurgeon, he is "entertaining goats, not feeding sheep."

I can not think of a more stupid business tatic than for Contential Airlines to slur and harass a guy who ministers to most of Houston. Big mistake.

It's on Lakewood's website. His brother, the Dr., will be filling in.

To paraphrase Spurgeon, he is "entertaining goats, not feeding sheep."

The sheep will get fed even whilst the goats are being entertained:

Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Threads like this on FR are truly amazing. It's clear that envy is not the exclusive purview of the Left.

Yep. However, I would somewhat agree if Joel was doing this off of Tithe money. However, Joel sells millions of books so he should be able to enjoy that money, IMHO.
