The biggest threat to America is not terrorism, but the cowardly fifth column of terrorist appeasers in our midst.

In the last 100 years the world has come so far. The collapse of the Soviet Union. The defeat of the Japanese Empire and Hitler. Now democratic change in the middle east.
All the technological leaps that we come to expect now.
All this greatly because of Americans.

I am thrilled at what the future brings.

Like you, I worry and wonder about America's future. I believe it will get worse before it gets better. If our survival is directly threatened, then enough Americans may awaken and take back our nation from those, within and without, who would destroy her.

We must reject abortion and homosexual marriage and become God-fearing people again. Why, otherwise, should God bless America?

Pray that our Supreme Court comes to its senses, and that our people come to theirs.

Bear, I'm guardedly optimistic. Lot of potential trouble spots, but on the whole, life is getting better for more people.

Maybe ... if our "Republican" "leaders" don't spend us into oblivion and they can figure out which side of the political fence they want to stand on.

we're only about two years away from getting the enabling technology to kill the cost of water desalination and five years away from getting the tech to kill the cost of water tranport and hydrogen production. The consequence of these two items will be that it will make economic sense to turn all the world's deserts green.

The first major offworld migrations are likely still 40-50 years off. They may require something like the space elevator which moved to the realm of the possible this year.

The 21st century will look more like the US 19th or the Spanish 16th centuries in terms of exploration expansion and colonization. Only this time it will be outer space.

It's not a matter of our enemies but ourselves. The global economy can be a major blessing or a major curse, depending upon how we as a nation respond to it culturally moreso than politically. We are entering a new world, where networking, college degrees, and simply being an American won't cut it when it comes to satisfactory employment. Each worker must be a hired "mind" instead of a hired "hand". It's when you bring to the table of information and creativity that will matter, not whether or not you can work hard in a rust-belt factory or look over an accounting report quickly.

The greatest barrier to future American success is the education, or lack thereof, of our population. Half of the New York's black high schoolers won't graduate. They will not have much hope now or in the future. Something like 75% of American small businesses don't export, don't have a clue as to the opportunities to profit from the global economy, and it'll get worse as cyberspace bridges all gaps and makes it more profitable to hire a digital Indian living half the world away as an accountant instead of the local guy down the street. Those businesses won't survive. These "victims" are going to be angry, and they'll turn to stupid politicians who will promise a safety net at the expense of "corporations" and "the rich". Wellfare hasn't been cured, its just in remission. The threat of stupid voters is always a threat, it will be worse in fifteen years. That means tax payer money, paying people in some way because they don't have the skills to offer anything to anyone--either Earned Income Tax Credits, or some state or national Health care program, or incarceration. All of which harm the economy.

Having a high school degree in this country doesn't mean you can think worth a darn, and its getting to be that way with college degrees as well. The Left via Postmodernism and non-reflective Marxism has ripped Rationality out of the heart of the potentially brightest minds in our country, and unfortunately the Right has stood there with a poop-eating smile and taken it, retreating gleefully behind the wall of anti-intellectual Evangelical Christianity (a group of which I am a member).

Demographics are changing. We will not have the tax payers to support the Social Security system as it is. The Social Security system was a joke of an idea to begin with, but the chickens come home to roost within the next fifteen years. And with the refusal of the Left to address Sosh, and the ineptitude of the Right to argue persuasively for its change, that's going to be a major burden on our economy--one that will stifle investment, opportunities, and our greatest national asset--our financial system. We'll have to import more workers, which would alienate the hard anti-immigration Right and also dilute any sort of unified culture we have remaining.

Where is the hope? Well there are always options. Privatize Social Security, yesterday. Forget the Stock Market, at least have a system that funnels one's FICA taxes into a savings account at a bank of the workers choice. Turn Social Security from a public coffers based program, to a coercive private savings account. More money in the bank, more loans banks have to make to cover their liabilities. More small businesses, more business expansion, more inventions, more home ownership, more college educations. Banks do more to create jobs than the big corporations on Wall Street do.

Privatize Government land out west (Government owns 1/3 of the land in this country) over a five year period, and do it in an "affirmative action" manner, so that the working class and working poor have assets and immediately become property owners. Use this planned "quasi-landrun" as a carrot and stick strategy, the more you do to get your life in order during the prospectus period (GED, 2 year degree, 4 year degree, engineering degree, marriage) the better and more land you will recieve. Socialism has done a lot to destroy the black family, create incentives to bring back the black family. Since working class/poor are also usually religious folk, they will become Republicans within a decade. Bring capitalism and the American dream to the disillusioned in this country--the people falling for class warfare rhetoric and socialist enterprises--which would not only to make this country more prosperous and turn transer payment recipients into tax payers, but because its the Christian thing to do. Oh and it would destroy the threat of socialism and the Democratic base, leaving the Democratic party to be the party of WASPs (White Atheist Socialist Pornstarwannabes). Other land could be sold to American corporations cheaply, to help pay off the debt. Offer tax incentives to these corporations to train their new "quasi-landrun" neighbors in finance, international business, engineering, and information technology.

Abolish the Capital Gains tax at least, try and do away with the income tax. Our financial system is our strength, it needs to be stronger.

National standards in education, school vouchers and home schooling and all that stuff is nice and worth supporting, but do not address the problem of the education culture on a large scale--every person who has a high school degree not only should know the basics (the Three Rs, which is disgustingly controversial in and of itself and a sign as to how messed up our educational culture has become), but know business, management, entreprenuership, technology, critical thinking, creative thinking, American history, world history, free market economics (ie why America is the greatest country in the world), and the scientific method. Oh, and character education would help too--much of our cultural problems, from drugs to teenage pregnancy to fat poor people, is the result of instant gratification. A national agenda to teach delayed gratification in kindergartens and first grade classes is needed.

Standing on the sidelines and whining about the Left won't cut it. I get the impression some conservatives revel in America's potential decline just so they can point the finger at someone else. We are all at fault, and living in the subjunctive mood of woulda coulda shoulda won't curb the future consequences of present inaction. All this requires leadership and intelligence from the Republican party, not to mention communication skills. Those don't exist right now, at the grass roots or national level, in the conservative portion or moderate portion or liberal portion or libertarian portion of the GOP. The Democrats, they're hopeless across the board. NO one's talking about these issues, the demographics and the social security system and the consequences of the global genuinely merit-based economy.

An America that addresses these problems head on, fights for Capitalism AND Education, will see its greatest days ahead. An America that whines, that waits until its too late to fight for both, would not have the resources to fight the War on Terror effectively. America must be ahead of the game not just to stay an economic superpower, but to finance our just war against Evil. Economics isn't just about having a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot, its about having a cutting edge military and a populace that believes in the purpose of its nation.
