Jurist Concerned Bush Order Tainted Work of Secret Panel
By Carol D. Leonnig and Dafna Linzer Washington Post Staff Writers Wednesday, December 21, 2005; Page A01
A federal judge has resigned from the court that oversees government surveillance in intelligence cases in protest of President Bush's secret authorization of a domestic spying program, according to two sources.
U.S. District Judge James Robertson, one of 11 members of the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, sent a letter to Chief Justice John D. Roberts Jr. late Monday notifying him of his resignation without providing an explanation.

Yes.
See ya later, judge. Glad to see another Clinton appointee GONE. :)
U.S. District Judge James Robertson, appointed by Clinton, didn't to have a problem with Clinton conducting warrantless wiretaps with Bubba's Echelon program...more broad than Bush's program. Someone should see if this judge was leaking to the NYTs.
Buh bye Judge Robertson!!
I KNEW IT! A another Joe Wilson gadfly who now smells his big chance to get his 15 minutes of fame. He'll go around the country, making speeches before left rat groups/rallies, and being the new 'hero' of the left. He's probably already daydreaming of the book deals he'll get offered.
But he waited 4 years, until the NYT publishes a story and book about it?
Color me skeptical.
Excellent post. Thnaks for the ping, Ernie!
And MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Yep....this is designed to get the story to the Sunday shows...the Judge will be the new media darling.
Goody. Because then the spotlight will also fall on what Toon was doing. And then watch the fur fly.
I note the judge resigned without resignation; yet the title says he resigned in protest of the Bush policy to tap phones domestically if they were in contact with AQ.
Should have said the judge resigned without explanation.
It appears we may have here a major reason why Bush would want to circumvent this court.
Great find. The more we learn about this guy, the more we understand his agenda. If he considered the detaineees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as prisoners of war under the Geneva Conventions, Robertson is way off the chart in terms of judicial philosophy, not to mention competence.
My thoughts as well.
Very interesting. Maybe the Judge resigned because he may be connected to the Abramoff scandal. Abramoff is supposedly plea bargaining with DOJ now by cooperating and naming names. That announcement was made today.
Don't try to confuse us with the facts, pacpam.
Finally!!! All the 'rats have been wailing about how easy and how fast it is to get a warrant from this court so why did Bush have to go without a warrant? Blah, Blah, Blah.
My very first thought on that one was that there is/are judge(s) on that court that would tip someone off and it wouldn't matter if that someone was al Qaeda.
After all, this creepy Clintonite has openly done everything he could to undermine our ability to hold terrorists, let alone do anything to defeat them. What then would stop him from helping them in a more covert way?
Thank you, President Bush, for circumventing this particular enemy within (and maybe a couple others, too) and I hope you have the goods on him and have forced him out. If there are more in there--keep going!
I think the most accepted answer to that is to protect the Clintons from discovery and/or prosecution for their many illegal financial scams. Supposedly 9/11 was an unintended consequence.
The scams include illegal foreign "donations"--actually purchases. We all know that red China purchased much of our best classified technology and that this has severly hurt our national security.
I hope nobody will tell me they couldn't figure out the consequences of that. IMO "unintended" consequences does not apply to Chinagate. The best spin they can put on that one is that they were indifferent to the consequences.
Dick Morris has made the point that Jamie Gorelick couldn't have helped al Qaeda more if she'd been on their ground squad. He made no attempt to say that she meant to do that and I don't have any proof she did either.
OTOH there's all that case history of the Clinton administration from their decimating our mililtary to failing to take action against terrorists to selling out to our most powerful potential (and likely) enemy.
Clearly it doesn't trouble them to damage our country. Did they intend to? Hopefully we'll know that someday, but I suspect that they did.
Why they would want to undermine our country--the bigger picture you're looking for--is harder to pin down than the fact that they have done it. I don't know what their final goal is, but I sure do see them and most 'rat operatives working like crazy to harm the USA!
Very interesting. Maybe the Judge resigned because he may be connected to the Abramoff scandal. Abramoff is supposedly plea bargaining with DOJ now by cooperating and naming names. That announcement was made today.

Yes, very interesting and very deceptive to try and use the flap over the NSA to cover the possible real reason for his resignation....
