An interesting thing happened this evening. I formed Rodney King's maxim #4. For those of you who haven't been following my maxims, the first three are:
#1: Don't trust anyone who doesn't drink - unless he/she is a recovering alcoholic.
#2: Never take the side of the homosexuals- ever.
#3: Any guy who goes to see Bareback Mountin' is gay.
And now for #4. I was pulling into Sonic with my wife, and some lady cut into the drive through land and got ahead of me. After a flippant remark that I made to the effect of "What a B*tch" or something like that, my wife suggested that she didn't do anything wrong, and that I should be forgiving in the spirit of Christmas. So then it occured to me: How can I forgive her if she didn't do anything wrong? That is when it dawned on me that there is no forgiveness without blame (RK's maxim #4). So go ahead, point your finger, judge people's behavior.
William Blake once said: "The glory of Christianity is to conquer by forgiveness."
Therefore it follows that the glory of forgiveness can not be attained without blame, as there can be no forgiveness without blame.
bump
This last sentence should read:
Therefore it follows that the glory of Christianity can not be attained without blame...
""The glory of Christianity is to conquer by forgiveness."
Brother Dave Gardner said many times, "Love your enemies and drive them nuts."
***""The glory of Christianity is to conquer by forgiveness."
Brother Dave Gardner said many times, "Love your enemies and drive them nuts."***
But, it helps to carry a very big stick in case they didn't get the memo. After all, one only has so many cheeks to turn.
But there can be no forgiveness without repentance. That always gets overlooked.
Brother Dave Gardner was a comedian.
(Luke 17:3 KJV) Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
Notice in this case, the p[erson has to be confronted for their actions, and they must admit they are wrong and show they changed before forgiveness is deserved.
God works the same way with us, we must first be shown we are wrong, and we must show we responded to our wrongness by admitting it and changing.
If you judge people, you have no time to love them
.......Mother Teresa
Actually, we should let Jesus decide if someone should be forgiven or not. Forgiveness can not be figured out by you because it involves repentence and only Jesus knows if that is real or not.
As for Christians, we should always be truthful about the sin and then let it go away from us - leave it up to Jesus to forgive or not forgive. Letting offense go means only that we leave it to God - not that we rationalize sin or excuse sin. We do that so that we are free from the sin of others, however forgiveness is a spiritual action between God and the sinner.
I have two maxims in life...
1) There are very few problems in life that can't be solved with a pellet gun.
2) Where a pellet gun is not appropriate, duct tape will do the job.
Think about it...Neighbor's cat is howling late at night??? #1
... Giving a presentation and someone is heckling you??? #1...people will wonder why he suddenly lurched and then ran screaming out of the room... Neighbor's kids making too much noise...well, #2.
Was this in North Dakota?
Isn't it the Airing of Grievances, followed by the Feats of Strength?
Be thankful it wasn't in the drive by land.
...from his album "Rejoice,Dear Hearts"
I had a cop tell me your maxim #1 once. I will always remember it.
Never point your finger when a revolver will do.
You never know what someone else is going through at a particular time in their life to cause them to behave in certain ways. For example, the person who is driving erratically and/or speeding and just cut you off could have just gotten a call that their loved one was in the emergency room at the local hospital.
Ooh, that's a good one.
I know what you mean from personal experience. ; )
